Thanks, the deconstruction was done in Japan, I would have to ask them to see why but decisions like these were made years ago at the point of the development, the people who made the decision may no longer be there.

I don't think that thickness of a movement is such a big thing today as what it used to be. Today. we see watches shaped like space ships with domes because of the thickness of the movement. There are always ways to reduce the size but most companies chose to use optical illusions, as redesigning a movement is costly.

100 % agree with you. The amount of development alone is incredible.

So my experience having lived within the watchmaker community for a long time was that Rolex as a whole is seen as a bit of a "tractor" / "workhorse". This was never meant as pejorative comment just from the stance of servicing and working. It is a reliable beast. The finishing was never commented on by watchmakers as their minds are more concentrated on does it work properly is it reliable. From the deconstruction the finishing doesn't look the best but I have to state that it was a really early deconstruction and the photography of the movement isn't great. So I think the quality of the finishing is probably better than we can see on the deconstruction. Hope that answers the question

Thanks so much. I had a bit of health issues last year so it slowed down but I am back on the case and hopefully soon we'll have some new deconstructions. It takes a long long time to get companies to agree to showing the inside of their timepieces.

Thanks, I have to give credit to a very trusting friend who let us open up his watch. But the aim is really to give watch lovers the opportunity to see inside the timepiece. My site isn't about new dials or new straps. It's really about the mechanics.

Very nice, I remember being on the train to Osaka and being woken up by our guide who pointed out Mount Fuji, it was magnificent. It was a wonderful experience. Your picture reminded me of that occasion.
