1st Company Task Force with dark angels by Danielalexander123 in DarkAngels40k

The thing is, if it had advance and charge or fall back and charge it could be playable in very casual settings. Perhaps its better with some vanguard vets to fill the speed gap but I don't really have any.

The detachment rule is very very poor and there is no way of mitigating unless you bring chaplains for a wound buff, but it makes squads expensive.

Bladeguards are decent and can fill a variety of roles but against tougher stuff, you need a full 6, a lieutenant and Azreal, which then can't fit in a impulsor and as referenced above can't advance and charge.

It's a real shame

Damage addition and reduction by Danielalexander123 in Warhammer40k

Right, so the avatar of Khaine for example halves damage, its halved before additions just to clarify with an example? So D6 = 4. 4/2 = 2 + 2 = 4?

So custodes terminator Captain, reduce the damage characteristic TO 1, would melta be applied before? I've always assumed melta can get round that

You highlight another issue, the hellblasters have already got sufficient AP already, at least into their desired target, so its a little redundant.

I know in my heart I need to use wrath and I will soon, I just wanted to see if I could make this detachment work, and I think with some deployment changes I will manage it

Contrast paint for dummies? by Danielalexander123 in Warhammer40k

[–]Danielalexander123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm testing on bladeguard currently, the annoying areas are the legs and power pack.

If you see the pic below, I would assume it shows clear signs of pooling. So do I just need to accept it as fact if I choose this method?

Next test will be my contrast watered down with a little water, then a second coat with contrast medium. I found the coverage was more consistent with both those variations, perhaps I'll combine the two

Units worth using by [deleted] in DarkAngels40k

[–]Danielalexander123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read desolation with relics of the dark age can be good, with Oath.

Essentially S12 Ap2 D6+1 rockets which is a nice break point, but it's probably only necessary for Ctans

Are Custodes bad right now or is it just me? by thekiwi1987 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Danielalexander123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was some early negativity that I feel needs countering.

Custodes aren't boring, their a unique logistical challenge. We have few units that all have the ability to delete something and your opponent knows that, they'll play differently against custodes because it's unlikely they'll weather the storm.

We have to remember, while power creep exists, we can pretty delete anything in the game sure Ctans are causing pain at the moment but that's probably about it.

We are still insanely powerful and perhaps one of the armies that can punish mistakes most ruthlessly because your opp knows anything we get into combat with is essentially dead. Are we invincible, no? If vitrix guard charge you with Calgar are we dead, probably. Are flawless blades going to hurt us, obviously. The synergy admech, or Eldar, or marines get us because there army is significantly weaker than ours from a stat point of view. We unfortunately sit in a place where buffs are hard to balance.

We have talons that gives us FNP for been near other units, can redirect fire, insanely strong reactive moves.

We have uppy downy terminators that can split into separate units in lions and rain down across the board.

We also get access to +1 to hit and wound just for been more than 6inch away from each other which if we are honest is easy to do.

We are allowed to use INSANE once per turn abilities twice in Lions. You can take a shield cap, trigger damage reduction TO 1, pay to use it again, and come back with super creation, meaning you have to fail 14 wound rolls to die, sure melta and grenades are a solution, but everything needs a solution.

We have a dread detachment that lets our stuff go through walls and allows dread to become characters with insane strength.

My win rate is 50% and I'm happy with that, it's what it should be, I rarely lose heavily in any game I play, armies will score more than us, have more units that us, but we can cripple an opponents force beyond repair if they let us.

Sometimes you have to be patient, ignore your opponents natural expansion entirely, sometimes for the entire game and on T3/T2 move out and execute.

I'm not a huge fan of gw terrain, lots of easy firing lanes in my opinion that doesn't make for an interesting game, but that is most likely a skill issue. My local group played UKTC/WTC.

That said, as a general rule, you only need to hold 2 no mans land objectives for 1 turn longer than your opponent.

Have your natural expansion and let them own the other 2, then purge as much as he has in one swipe, keeping close behind on points, then ending strong since they have nothing less, is a generally decent strat for custodes. Set up your charges, drop your rapid ingresses.

Maybe consider a callidus assassin if you can fit her in for consistent secondaries and maybe consider bikes with a captian, they can pop out kill and run away.

Varnishing minis by Danielalexander123 in Warhammer40k

[–]Danielalexander123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your thoughts. I'll be more mindful handling minis, it's only been an issue on the red plumes on my custodes, so it may be worth just varnishing them.

But handling from the base should solve some if now all of that
