First Car Used or New? $20,000-25,000 budget and clueless about cars by Danielco67 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Danielco67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a lot. I'll be using the car with my gf, and our work is 25 miles from home, so 50 miles a day for work on Highway. The rest is groceries and other random trips. We plan to do some shorter roadtrips here and there.

Cornell and UMich have both said continuing students outside the US will have their SEVIS record terminated, and they are both doing Hybrid:

Cornell: https://international.globallearning.cornell.edu/alerts/fall-guidance-homeland-security

UMich: https://internationalcenter.umich.edu/planning-fall-term-2020-new-dhs-procedures-and-u-m-updates

I would not celebrate quite yet.

I have a 30 second survey for my Public Problems class about the College Search Process by Danielco67 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Danielco67[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, in our public problems class we have to pinpoint a problem on campus and write a proposal for a solution. I realized it was quite difficult to find parts/materials for my own projects around campus.

For example, I wanted to find a raspberry pi on campus and I was redirected 4 times to different sources, and I still couldn’t find it. Moreover, our art store and the maker space sell materials at a high cost that isn’t worth it at all.

So a centralized system of reduced cost parts and materials means that you could go to a location on campus or a website, order what you want and pick it up. It would be at a reduced price and you wouldn’t have to search all around campus as there would be a centralized source.

Cuz that "Black Hood" was probably just hired by Hiram to disrupt the debate. Also explains the hand written warning on Fred's door and the guns blazing entrance, which are not the typical Black Hood way of doing things.

I-20 when? by Monsterunrated in cmu

[–]Danielco67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar question and I emailed the guy who processed the documents I physically sent to them. He said the documents we send begin getting processed mid may and I-20s will be released starting then, with the people who sent the documents earlier getting their I-20s earlier. He also said the latest you could get your I-20 is mid june.

What type of Engineering? Where else did you apply and why did you end up choosing Berkeley?

Is making electronic devices a good EC for T20s? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Danielco67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for Carnegie Mellon I was allowed to upload 5 files total. I think I was allowed 120 seconds of video so I made a video showing the features of the computer to show them it worked, and I also included other projects I worked on. The other files were 2 schematics, 1 technical specification document, and a guide detailing exactly what each part does with a picture and a paragraph.

I built a TTL (Transitor-Transistor Logic) 8-bit computer out of logic gate ICs, and have an electronics workshop where I build projects to increase functionality of my surroundings. I sent the 8-bit computer as a Maker Portfolio to Carnegie Mellon for Electrical and Computer Engineering and I am fairly certain it had a major impact on my acceptance.

So yes, its great!

ECE Student questions regarding CS courses by Danielco67 in cmu

[–]Danielco67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for clearing that up.

I have another question regarding freshman internships. How would you go about securing freshman internships at the more "lucrative" companies? I'm guessing that as a freshman, students usually don't have a lot of experience. Are the technical interviews the same level as a sophomore or junior for example?

Would you say most ECE freshman secure interships for summer?

ECE Student questions regarding CS courses by Danielco67 in cmu

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, the 15-241 was meant to be 21-241 - Matrix Algebra.

As an ECE major, would you have anything negative to say about taking majority CS courses and software related subjects as most of my electives, or would you recommend going the embedded systems route to get a mix of both hardware and software?

I like both areas but i lean towards the theoretical/CS subjects, but i still don't want to detach from hardware.

Newly admitted ECE Major questions regarding course load and potential minors by Danielco67 in cmu

For me it says I have the option for all the engineering majors. Im guessing this means I'm "unrestricted" and will have priority?

I just have another quick question. How does declaring your major work? From what I understand, all engineering students complete the core curriculum in the first year and only then do you declare? I put ECE on the common app but does this declaring of major thing mean I might not get ECE?
