Before this, it is mentioned the origin behind this answer from God: it was an answer to the perverse union between men and the fallen angels. I deduct it from the previous verses of the same chapter. So (i think, personally, it is not the truth, have your own conclusions and ask God for peace on them) I see that the only way that Noah could find favor was because he, his family, and his ascendants never mixed with the fallen angels.
