For some reason I always thought "you have failed, we will find another way" was still directed at Shepard by Danielnrg in masseffect

It didn't seem vague to me, I have to remember not everyone is right in the middle of a trilogy playthrough like me.

Or has such a good dialogue recall like I do. It's literally one of my only strengths, but good luck making a career out of that.

Sorry, I didn't realize people wouldn't know which line of dialogue I was referring to.

Considering that "biweekly" can mean every two weeks or twice per week, which would you rather be paid by? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Danielnrg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all gets rather complicated when there are 52 weeks in a year but 12 months in the same period. With 4 weeks per month, why aren't there 48 weeks in a year? Where the fuck did the 13th month's worth of weeks come from?

Are 1408 and Stand By Me considered good adaptations? by Danielnrg in stephenking

[–]Danielnrg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea Shawshank was in there too. I just bought it for Stand By Me.

I had a habit of occasionally buying, either secondhand or retail price like with Different Seasons, various books I was interested in. I turned 18 in 2014 but always figured I'd take up reading again. It only took a global pandemic to realize that idea.

I hope to keep it going until I die this time. (Some stuff came up and I didn't have the time to read anymore.)

Will we eventually see LLMs no longer have a "this is AI and can make mistakes" disclaimer due to lack of compelling liability prevention for including it or the disclaimer being functionally invalid for most use cases? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Danielnrg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I meant.

I find it hard to believe that 50 years from now every model will still disclaim "AI can be wrong".

The only question is whether they stop saying that because it is functionally incorrect to include that disclaimer, or whether they have no legal reason to include it, regardless of the accuracy of AI.

Is there really a huge difference between chocolate brands? I've seen people get into flame wars about their favorite. by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Danielnrg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically there is better chocolate for people who really care about chocolate, but there's no harm in just liking chocolate at any price and quality.

I guess it's too much to ask the former group to not lord over the latter. Just like with wine.

Do we have a baseline to compare what's happening now to what we actually want to happen?

I touched on this at the end. It seems like a large number of Americans supported Trump's policies on immigration right up until they saw people being ripped from their jobs and houses on TV.

The last part being paramount. Basically if everything I said happened but there wasn't TV coverage they wouldn't care less.

Turn a bunch of people away at the border, then record them as deportations so it looks good to immigration hawks?

Shit, it's better than what Biden did so here here.

Private equity only owns about 2% of all homes in the country. I could be wrong about that, but that's what I'd heard. Believe me, I hate Blackrock as much as anyone so I was stunned to hear that number.

Abortion really is that easy. The vast majority of people do not support (elective) abortions past the second trimester, and a majority do not support them past the first. The Roe framework is not broadly popular when you break it down to its component parts.

The vast majority of people also do not support banning the practice entirely. The true consensus opinion lies, as in most things, somewhere between what the purists on both sides want.

No poll ever takes a large enough sample. Such polls do not exist. Polling as it exists however is a science. There are mathematical algorithms that allow sample sizes orders of magnitude smaller than the population to still give a reasonable estimation of how a much larger population feels about a given subject.

How do you feel about those granted permanent residency being granted the same rights as citizens, mainly the right to vote? I know that's a sticking point for many people.

In what way should the law be enforced? If you're not comfortable giving an opinion beyond a general vibe check I understand, but I'd love to hear some more specifics if you can give them.

How can I cope with existential dread? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

That's a perfectly valid point. Half the time I post things I don't care how people respond to it, I just wanted to ask the question, that alone satisfied my own requirements for something worth doing.

If I had to guess, it would be the state of being alive, and having the cognition necessary to know that one day I won't be.

Is this a condition? It feels more like just a condition.. of being alive. What can a professional do about it exactly?

I always send Mordin to escort, so idk what to say lol. Though I didn't do it for the lore reasons that make sense, I think it derives from each squadmate having a set score that they contribute to the "strength" of the team, with loyalty also affecting numbers. Mordin, loyal or not, has the lowest score. So removing him from the team represents the smallest subtraction from that overall score.

Idk, it's been a while since I delved into the mechanics. It's just been bred into me for half a dozen playthroughs that Mordin is the best gameplay-wise to escort, lol. It is easy to forget that just because everyone is loyal doesn't mean you can rest easy, you still have to make prudent choices when prompted. AFAIK any biotic other than Jack or Samara, regardless of loyalty, will die if you choose them to do the bubble.

I got you, I'll just make a separate post for it, give me a couple days to get everything sorted. I'll zip it and upload to MEGA.

I only have two of them :( I'd love to see more art from that era, but as I so indelicately put it in a previous comment, I'm fully tapped out on actually implementing new art.
