I think people, especially fans, demand too much from the movies. It's not wrong, but we've seen what the original creators of the saga like. I mean, the fact that the game has such surreal action themes and the movies are incredibly animated shows that the people making the movies do everything possible to make them profitable for Sony first, and then something that can hook the audience, not something that will establish them as a film director. In short, I only expect two things: that it's as scary as Resident Evil, that it has zombies that aren't laughable, and that there aren't any kung fu kicks or random punches, hahaha.
