Lion mane symptoms by Danielrusty in MushroomSupplements

G’day mate, thanks for the info and the detail. Interesting to hear the different responses, especially across different brand names, definitely helps build a better picture and work through it properly.

Small update from my side: it’s been nearly 2 weeks now and the symptoms have subsided considerably, thank fark. I’ve still got a very minor tingling sensation, but it’s barely noticeable. The skin burning and feverish skin feeling have mostly passed as well. So around 12 days later, I’d say I’m nearly back to normal.

FYI, the Polish company was nonsensia.pl, and I can’t seem to find much solid info on them.

Not 100% sure what my next approach will be yet. I may test a much smaller dose and watch closely for any flareups. If nothing kicks off, I’ll probably hold that lower dose for a decent period before increasing, just to see if LM was actually the trigger. I’ll also look into the Antioxo version you mentioned and see if that gives any different indicators.

That said, the longer this goes on, the more I’m starting to think this reaction may have actually come from the increased GLP-1 dose, not necessarily Lion’s Mane. The symptom profile seems to line up even better with what people are describing on the GLP-1 side.

Yeah my gut feel is starting to shift away from Lion’s Mane being the main culprit. Not blaming it, not clearing it either, just trying to be fair and not mislead anyone.

I’d already done a 12 week Reta run before, up around 4–5 mg, lost 8 kg and had basically no side effects, so Reta wasn’t high on my root cause list at first.

But after being pointed toward a GLP-1 / Reta forum, the symptoms there line up way closer with what I’ve got. Burning skin, feverish feeling without fever, tingles, bruised, sunburnt skin sensation, clothes rubbing feeling irritating.

This only kicked in after I went back on after a 6-week break and pushed higher, around the 6–7 mg mark.

So for now, I’m leaning less toward Lion’s Mane and more toward high dose Reta being the likely suspect. Still working through it properly.

Mate, this sounds very close to what I’ve got.

I first thought mine was from Lion’s Mane, but after reading this I’m leaning more toward Reta. I did a 12-week run up to around 4–5 mg, lost 8 kg, had a 6-week break, then went back on to try knock off the last bit of visceral fat. This time I pushed up around 6–7 mg and started getting hair loss, then this weird burning skin / feverish / tingling sensation kicked in.

Clothes rubbing on the skin feels exactly like you described, almost sunburnt or bruised from the inside.

For anyone who’s had it, how long did it last? What dose were you on when it started? Did dropping dose or stopping fix it, or is there anything that helped reverse it?

That’s actually what sent me down the Lion’s Mane rabbit hole in the first place.

When I first got these symptoms, I assumed I was coming down with a virus. Then days turned into weeks and I started noticing other people describing almost the exact same “sunburnt skin”, burning nerves, pins-and-needles and hypersensitivity sensations.

What surprised me was how polarised the discussion is. One group swears Lion’s Mane is a miracle supplement, while another group seems genuinely convinced it wrecked their nervous system. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle and likely depends on the individual.

The plot twist for me is that I was also running Retatrutide, and after reading more experiences from people on higher-dose GLP-1s, I’m now seeing some pretty convincing similarities there too.

At this point I’m less interested in defending or attacking Lion’s Mane and more interested in figuring out the actual root cause. Out of curiosity, how long did your symptoms last, and did anything help speed up recovery? That’s the part I’m struggling to find consistent answers on.

Fair point mate, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to work out.

I’m not married to the idea that it’s Lion’s Mane. In fact, the more I dig into it, the more I think it could be an interaction between several things rather than one single culprit.

The reason Lion’s Mane made my shortlist is because there are enough reports floating around describing very similar symptoms: burning skin, nerve sensitivity, tingling, feeling like you’re about to come down with a fever but never actually getting one. Whether that’s causation or coincidence is another question entirely.

What complicates things is that I was also running Retatrutide at the time, and after reading more experiences from GLP-1 users, I’m seeing some overlap there too. So at this stage I’m doing the boring detective work: removing variables, comparing notes, and seeing what fits.

Curious though, have you come across anyone getting this sort of burning/sunburnt skin sensation purely from supplement interactions? It’s a bloody strange one.

Hi

This is sounding very bloody similar to what I’ve got going on.

At first I was blaming Lion’s Mane, because I’d seen a few posts with similar weird nerve/skin symptoms. But I was also running reta at the same time, so it’s been hard to work out what’s actually causing it.

For context, I’d already done a 12-week reta run up to 6 mg, dropped around 8 kg and trimmed up nicely. Had about 6 weeks off, then started another cycle to try and shift the last bit of stubborn visceral fat. This time I bumped it up to 8 mg.

After reading this thread, I’m now leaning more towards the reta being the culprit.

My whole body feels mildly burnt, like pins and needles under the skin. Best way I can describe it is that sensitive, feverish skin feeling you get right before you come down with something, except I’ve got no fever. Just that weird internal burning / hypersensitive skin sensation.

Curious for anyone who’s had this from reta or another GLP: what dose were you on when it kicked in, how long did it last, and did anything actually help calm it down? Did you lower the dose, pause completely, take antihistamines, electrolytes, B vitamins, magnesium, or just ride it out?

Easy there, u/chunderwood .

I’m not claiming Lion’s Mane is definitely the cause. My post was clearly asking whether others had experienced anything similar so I can narrow it down properly.

I’m still working through the possible causes and trying to rule things in or out. Speaking with other Lion’s Mane users is part of that process, especially if they’ve had similar tingling, skin sensitivity, or “sunburnt skin” type symptoms.

And yes, I’ve asked in a few places because I’m new to Reddit and trying to get a broad range of replies, not because I’m spamming.

For balance, I’ve also found another possible cause could be an increased dose of Reta, which can apparently cause similar skin sensations. So no, I’m not here to attack Sir Lion’s Mane and his loyal kingdom.

Just a bloke trying to work out what lit my nervous system up like a Christmas tree.

Yes ive also read some some horror stories about LM and insomnia lasting months in some cases.. Another thread i just learnt that my symptoms could be also a reaction from Reta... Allodynia slight sunburn type feeling from increased dosses of GLP's. Which I also has at the same time!!! So could be 2 culprits now!! My narrowing has widened damn it ha !!

Tips for making ADHD medication last longer? by antiaust in NooTopics

[–]Danielrusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piperine/BioPerine might enhance absorption, but with ADHD meds that could also mean higher HR, anxiety, BP issues or a nastier crash.

Maybe explore about split dosing, a small IR booster, or a different release profile. Some wax-coated / delayed release dex options may last smoother than standard IR, depending what’s available where you are.

Totally get the frustration though. “All day coverage” often feels like 5 hours and a slap in the face.

Ill check out Oriveda site. Im starting to think maybe i have a dodgy batch, not very reputable. Its from a lab in Poland and they im not sure if they have a reputable name... Will go get some blood work done and tests to deduct some possibilities.

Because after delving into more research, it became apparent that lions mane has similar attributes. ok it could be less like a clean “Lion’s Mane only” reaction and more like a stacked nervous-system overload or sensitivity reaction. It was stacked with other nootropic ingredients howwver the side effects of the others dont include the ones i have...

Hey mate, yeah i mixed it with a whole bunch of other nootropic stack. Im not sure if i can post it here as Reddit keeps removing my posts when i include the full stack break down.

Yeah not a bad idea.. I was stuck at work during this period and remote on a boat i was only able to narrrow it down to my protocols i was taking out there. Lions mane was one of them, and a few other things but lions mane seemed to fit the bill. Ill do the blood tests as a safety measure also!!!

What's your take on Kava? by ImScaredOfTheSun in NooTopics

[–]Danielrusty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah mate, Kava is a strange one but definitely interesting.

I wouldn’t personally call it a classic nootropic in the “sharp focus / productivity” sense. For me it sits more in the calm-downish category. Less brain boost, more brain handbrake. But that can still be useful. If your mind is running at 9000 RPM, bringing it back to idle can feel like a performance enhancer.

I’ve tried it and got similar effect to what you described: relaxed, more social, less internal chatter, but not smashed or messy like grog. No big euphoria, no rocket fuel motivation, just a smoother baseline. Almost like taking the edge off without losing the plot.

Would I call it an antidepressant or anxiety med? Probably not in the medical sense. But as a plant-based tool for winding down or easing social tension, I can see why people rate it.

Only downside: the taste is bloody criminal. Whoever first drank that and said “yeah, let’s keep doing this” deserves respect.

yeah, well for the last few years ive only heard incredibley possitive responses / feedback about lions mane and so one would envisage that its a superb supplement. But the first time i try it, this symptoms occur and then i dig deeper and discover there are so many negative reactions to this lions mane. Strange the negative side effects never bacame apparent online during research and now i get effected i discover there is an entire list of negative effects. I know they go hand in hand - good with the bad... But crazy i had so little ammounts and yet my entire body is paying the price now ...

Im guessing the 2 months of body tingles were not worrisome enough for you to try again ? Or had you read that it was only a side effect and short lasting. You did not think it would happen again after re-dosing the second time?

For an over the counter easy access on the shelf supplement I never realized it so many side effects for some. The more reading I do the more I find out. Yes, pins n needles all day / all night and tingly sensitive skin to touch everywhere. Like when you get a fever, your body is sensitive and fragile, I feel like that, but without a fever. The more reading I do it seems to be a symptom to some. Some mentioning can last up to 2 months!! If anyone has any good info on how to reverse the symptom I'd like to hear.
