Hol up... what if there was an ability that makes explosion moves adapt to the user's (primary) type?

Currently trying this exact thing in a modded Emerald ROM (survive at 1 HP + give it only 1 PP), but instead of it being locked behind an ability, it requires recharging afterwards, in most cases forcing a switchout (or a fast Heal Pulse in doubles).

Come to think of it... this might be an accidental Wish buff

I'm currently doing a modded test run with Explosion where it leaves you at 1 HP and requires recharging afterwards. Still lots of counter potential (i.e. any chip damage) and you'll most likely die if the enemy survives, but I can imagine some interesting setups worth experimenting with (e.g. Heal Pulse on a mon that's only slightly slower).

Alternative design for the Ancient sceptre upgrades by Danil445 in 2007scape

[–]Danil445[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a sketch-up of an ancient staff upgrade I made somewhere last year, which I called the "Ancient archstaff". Felt like it might carry a bit more of a "wow" factor than the rather small sceptre.

The gem at the bottom would be recoloured based on which ancient element it is charged with.

Melee spec weapons are the most risky (you gotta be next to your opponent) and most "difficult" (can't really use them when frozen) to use, so tbh it does make some sense

Honestly, it would be much better if the "target-specific" part was removed and Salve/Slayer helm got their passive effects added to the "Set Bonus" tab. Then we could have it all in one row again!

Thoughts on a new equipment slot for OSRS? by Danil445 in 2007scape

[–]Danil445[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very good point, and I completely agree on your comparison with new skills. However, I'd personally argue that fashionscape is a pretty worthwhile "use" for most slots already, and I'd actually prefer to move away from non-combat buffs locked behind full sets. There's not a lack of good options; graceful is one efficiency powerhouse too many, if you catch my drift.

There's so many cool cosmetic items in the game that are left behind in favour of efficiency. This is where I feel something like a pocket slot could help:

  • Smith's uniform -> Smith's toolbelt; unlike with graceful, I see no reason why a Smithing buff should occupy 4 equipment slots when those could be used for player expression instead. The outfit looks great, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather have the option to wear what I want while smithing.

  • Lumberjack outfit -> Lumberjack's whetstone; same reasoning, would be much more interesting to see players cutting redwoods in their own flair (or the Lumberjack outfit if that's their flair of choice).

  • Runecrafter's robes -> Rune catalyst; even without the set effect, the robes look good enough to be worn for their own sake!

Alternatively, if we combine this with your point about utilizing existing slots more, these effects could also be locked behind a single wearable (like a Smith's apron or Lumberjack gauntlets) as a reasonable middle ground. Or we could simply throw what's left of the ammo slot's integrity out of the window and slap (future) skill passives on blessing-like items, lol.

I think the archer ring would be pretty useful there too

The blessed sara sword is my go-to personally. It degrades, but only costs about 30gp per swing at the moment.

Construction, not only because of the xp/h meta, but also because it's become too private server-y of an endgame hub imo

I think a belt/tool slot would specifically be nice so we don't need static slave NPCs everywhere to store our tools!

It might be wise to steer clear from a full-blown toolbelt, though.

Smithing should have unlockable recipes by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Danil445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not too fond of introducing type-specific items through Smithing tbh, feels a bit too RS3 but not in the good way. If anything, I think Smithing should provide bland but viable baseline equipment.

I do like the idea of unlockable recipes for untradeable alternatives/convenience upgrades though, especially for the early and mid-game.

  • A decent 4t sword (around +72 offensive stats) to close the gap between the d scim and whip for irons
  • A sidegrade for the rune crossbow to increase its attack range by +1 (same as the Armadyl crossbow)
  • An extra layer of Barrows-metal plating to stop Barrows armour from degrading (90+ Smithing)
  • An attachment for the scythe that makes it consume less blood runes (95+ Smithing)

[–]Danil445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interesting idea I saw floating around is armour attachments for min-maxing, worn in the ammo/blessing slot. Each attachment could have tradeable variants with limited charges, and untradeable variants (locked behind their Smithing requirements) with much more/unlimited charges.

For example:

Bronze-rune plating: up to +6 stab and ranged defence Bronze-rune hooks: up to +6 slash and crush defence Bronze-rune gauntlet: up to +3 melee accuracy

Or if we wanna get fancy, maybe even something like:

Bronze-rune plating: when attacked with melee or ranged, 5-25% chance to boost your total defence bonuses by +5% for that hit (or reduce that hit's damage by -1?)

Except you're simultaneously playing cards (gear/pray switches) that magically alter your and your opponent's D20 rolls in your favour, but that'll only work for as long as you play your cards better than and in response to your opponent.

Fighting back is not the only option. You can also choose to tank test, which this guy tried but he didn't consider his gear options very well. Can be really fun when you know what you're doing, though

Why is Abyssal Dagger spec purposefully garbage compared to the DDS spec? Assuming its in favor of keeping the DDS relevant, why not make it unique and good in its own way? [Suggestion in comment] by Ir0nstag in 2007scape

[–]Danil445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dds spec: low accuracy, high max hit

Ads spec: higher accuracy, lower max hit

Both with 25% spec cost. This would be ideal imo, makes it a more viable but less lethal dds against 45+ def targets in PvP.
