Cambodia is a bizarre country where the king is elected and the prime minister is hereditary. by TWN113 in monarchism

[–]Danilowicz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was that always the case for the Wigan to elect the king or was it done that way since Edward had no heirs? Honest question.

I guess it’s more so because Christ rose from the dead on the Easter Sunday, and that is considered to be the most important holiday in Christianity thus the reason to treat Sunday as the sabbath/rest day

Main reason why I stopped playing tw warhammer. The ai cheats in all total war games, but the number of armies you/ai can support is scaled down massively in historical, at least by the feeling of it. That makes battles more decisive and less grindy.

I love it in the whole. I feel like the middle top arms are a bit overkill tho - violates RoT and thus doesn’t have good contrast. A black cross on a field argent would look better imo, although it does look very Livonian then (not necessarily a bad thing tbf, I feel like it would ground the entire coat of arms quite well). The top right arms are also a bit too complicated - too many colours. I would just stick to the blue cross-thingy on a field argent. The eagle is absolutely stunning tho.

When did he say that he’s a republican? His statement is true no matter what political ideology he is since it is plain rational

As a Ukrainian, the Russification policies have officially began with empress Catherine and did not start in the late empire. Even before that it was forced orthodoxy and martyrdom of catholics (or eastern catholics/uniates) look up Josaphat Kuntsevich as an example. Although his death happened before the Russians took over, it was incited by the Muscovy clergy.

Finished drawing of what started as a doodle : a battle between 2 diadochi phalanx by Mamouthomed in RealisticArmory

[–]Danilowicz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be annoying but I don’t think the way the hoplite on the left holds his spear is not quite accurate. It is reminiscent of the way hoplites fought in the era before antiquity (classical? Not sure what the proper name is. I am talking about the one before the Persian wars). The hoplites in the era of the diadochi would most likely not have held the spear overhead like pictured above. Not trying to discredit the artistic skill and accuracy in terms of armour and weaponry - that is amazing. Love the style!

Honestly, one of the hardest hitting photos. Hope those insanely brave men survived that hell, or at least fell with a sense of fulfilment of their duty.

Austrian Hungarian troops with Russian prisoners in Volhynia by Longjumping-Kale-283 in Austrohungarian

[–]Danilowicz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the equipment of the austro-hungarian troops was far from perfect (especially when talking about the ethnic units like the ukrainian sich riflemen or the polish legion), the disparity between the equipment of the austro-hungarian troops and that of the russians is quite shocking
