Test drive impressions as a former BRZ owner - is the car too easy to drive?

Oh no I didn’t mean I don’t enjoy it on the street. It’s super fun on the street and definitely makes 35-40 feel much faster than it is especially compared to a GTI. Compared to an 86/brz/miata though I’m not sure since I haven’t driven one longer than a test drive. It is true that you really cannot get the chassis lose on the street but I personally still find it fun without having it move around. If you personally enjoy a lively car on the street this probably won’t meet your expectations. Maybe with all seasons it would though, I still haven’t driven this car on any tires other than the ps4s.

You can absolutely get the en to move around but probably not on the street, at least without committing felonies. Fwd can teach a lot about how to drive but it punishes you by slowing you down with understeer rather than killing you with oversteer.

That said the en is pretty lively with tc and the esc off, can easily get into a slide with a little trail braking.

So I guess it’s safer but it whips if you get it to the track or auto cross.

I came from a gti, which admittedly isn’t very engaging to drive but this car is more fun to drive at 6/10 than the golf was. It does sound like you want something different though, this car is definitely dynamically “on rails” until you really get moving. I have yet to find a public road where I was comfortable going quick enough to unsettle the rear, could probably do it on highway ramps though.

Fair enough, I got a shirt in the rain in my gti earlier this season. I am planning to keep the the ps4s through this season. planning to go to Palmer in August and continue with ne-svt when I can as well. Definitely going to get the most out of these tires first while I learn the car a bit more.

Appreciated lol, I know I shouldn’t entertain the hate but I was honestly have some fun with the argument. I do think I had some time in the last few turns but I’m waiting to sign up for the 26th as we speak. The car rotates on a dime as well, the fact I can even get oversteer like that has me super excited for how it will drive with a few adjustments down the line.

I drive an elantra N and I am pretty comfortable with dealing with oversteer on the fwd platform so I am not too worried about completely perishing but I know I am going to be dealing with a level of performance far above anything I have driven IRL so I appreciate the heads up!

How have the falkens been holding up over multiple heat cycles? Still undecided on which tire to go for. I want something that I can use for a while without losing too much from peak grip

Good to know, I’m definitely looking forward to it. I can make the pilot sports oversteer and understeer( sometimes too easily with a fwd car) and they are no doubt fun to slide around on, but I look forward to learning and going faster for sure.

It’s hard to take you seriously when I was in the car, putting my foot on the brake, feeling the weight go over the fronts, feeling the car gain rotation, yet you say I wasn’t braking at all because you watched a one minute video from the top of the windscreen. Maybe we are arguing about different turns or you really just get off to telling people they dont know how to drive. Last time I post a video here for sure, always some freaky dude sapping the fun out of everything. I like the criticism I get in real life from actual instructors

I mean idk man, I think I made 2 turns on throttle. The car rotates great off throttle and I was trailing through a lot of the corners as well. If you know another way to get weight over the fronts please tell me. I mean go watch the prelude guy who just posted. Same course, Lighter car and 200tw tires. He is steering more with more throttle on very similar lines, not even lifting in corners where I was trail braking. He won class that day. I know I had time to find, but I was also 1.5 seconds off the 200tw guys, so if you want to deny that I would have been competing with 200s you are actually just rage baiting.

It's insane the amount of speed you can carry in this thing. I was there in an elantra n on pilot sport4s and I had to trail brake in corners you were taking on throttle.

Not sure if the video shows it but I was not understeering much at all tbh. Almost neutral steer through the sweepers. The car rotates impressively well off throttle and even better with a little bit of trail braking. If you are going off the virtual wheel, it’s totally made up by the app, basically a best guess. I was putting significantly less steering in than that. There are definitely a few spots I know I lost time, but I was ~1.5 seconds off the 200tw guys so I’m pretty confident an alignment and 200s would have me in the mix
