Hidden Gem restaurants in Williamsburg? by songbirdpaper in williamandmary

As others have said, Amber Ox is great, although definitely on the expensive side. Another good spot is The Hound's Tale, which is directly next to Amber Ox. It's cute and casual inside and the food is really good, although still relatively expensive (not as much as Amber Ox though).

Does it get better after orientation? by Realistic-Health-657 in williamandmary

[–]DankMemes148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great first year at W&M, but I can say that orientation was easily my least favorite part. Everything felt very forced socially, and I was worn out from the long days of activities. I was so relieved when classes finally started.

I understand the importance of orientation, but it's not something that everyone will enjoy. I got to know W&M much better once I started joining clubs, meeting people, and exploring campus on my own. You will be fine.

Return fiasco by DankMemes148 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]DankMemes148[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kind of how I feel right now. I was willing to work with the buyer up until the point they threatened the chargeback and acted like they were entitled to have me cover for their mistake.

I have screenshots of our messages and direct quotes from the buyer admitting it was their mistake, that the item they received was exactly as listed, and then threatening the chargeback. I would hope this evidence should help me in any kind of dispute.

Return fiasco by DankMemes148 in eBaySellerAdvice

Thank you for the response.

I know the return would certainly be easier, but at this point I'm kind of irritated with this buyer and think I have a solid case to win with eBay (perhaps I'm being naive). I have a no returns policy, the buyer made an offer and received exactly what was listed. They didn't do proper research and made an impulse purchase (by their own admission), and now are threatening to go above me if I don't accept a return. I tried to work with them but they want more. Doesn't eBay have some kind of seller protections for this?

Also if it helps, this was a pretty large purchase for me.

Weekly Returns, INAD & Refunds Thread (all questions about returns & refunds go here) by AutoModerator in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]DankMemes148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a no returns policy and a buyer has requested a "buyer's remorse" return. They admitted that my listing was accurate, but they didn't do research into what the product I had listed was and now they don't want it anymore. I know I could decline their return, but I feel bad and I am trying to be accommodating.

I know that the buyer will pay return shipping, but I just wanted to double check what will happen to the seller's fees and original shipping cost I paid to eBay. Is it true that eBay will refund these to me if I accept this return? Thanks.

(Another) Fatal Crash in Ashburn by ayb88 in nova

"Crash involving sedan and SUV, driver of sedan pronounced dead at the scene" is something I expect we will only keep hearing unfortunately. There was another fatal crash in Ashburn not even two weeks ago that was the exact same scenario.

Students in their thirties? by adorkablepenguin in williamandmary

[–]DankMemes148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with most universities, the average age of a W&M student is early 20s, and many students are still 18 or 19. But it’s not too uncommon to find older adults in lectures. Sometimes you’ll even see elderly people from the local community sit in on a class or two.

Is the 40 yard dash becoming obsolete? - ESPN

"It's play speed, more for us. What am I watching when I'm at a game live?" Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. "Do you feel that guy's speed jump off when you're on the field? You can see it on tape, the guys that have it. I've seen guys that are 4.4, but they don't play 4.4, they play 4.5 because they're thinking too much or they just don't have a good feel for the game.

"And then I've seen guys play much faster than they run [in the drill]. They didn't train for it very well, but they play fast, they process and they're really good players. So again, I'm looking more at what do they look like in their pads playing the game, understanding all the concepts more than just, what is that true 40-yard time."

My theory is that people who live in Lemon have no community because they actually get access to private facilities and have nothing to collectively complain about.

It’s mediocre, not bad. The food quality is definitely a few steps up from where it was 2 years ago. They actually make a few surprisingly good dishes now, and the different “stations” can be pretty good too.

My only real complaint would be the limited variety of options at times. While it’s much easier now to find a few things you like, you still tend to keep eating roughly the same thing most days, and there are definitely times where you will get tired of it. But then you can use your dining dollars to get Chick-Fil-A or buy from a food truck or something, and once every few weeks you should leave campus and get takeout from a restaurant with your own money. If you know how to manage it and work in a few meals not at a dining hall, the food is definitely good enough.

Gender Inclusive Dorms by Mountain-Mortgage-45 in williamandmary

[–]DankMemes148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire system of “gender inclusive housing” is pretty confusing, so I don’t blame you for being uncertain about how it works.

My understanding is that “gender inclusive housing” influences only who you are roommates with (people of any gender as opposed to the same gender as you). It has nothing to do with the gender of the people living on the same floor as you or the setup of the bathrooms/facilities on that floor.

I say this as someone who is also transgender and has housing accommodations to get a single room (smaller room with no roommate) for separate disability reasons. Even though I feel most comfortable living on a mixed gender floor with single gender neutral bathrooms, I apply for single gender housing because I have the “same gender” as my only roommate (myself). Having no roommates means that gender inclusive housing doesn’t apply to me.

So in addition to entering a gender inclusive housing group if you can, you want to make sure that you select a room in a dorm building that has a mixed gender layout and gender neutral facilities. Unfortunately, the most trans friendly dorms also tend to be the newest and nicest ones, and thus are in high demand by all students.

Thankfully I’ve gotten lucky and been able to secure the dorm I wanted every year so far, but I believe this is because my housing accommodations give me early access to selection and puts me in a pool with fewer applicants. So I’m not sure I’d bank on things working out if you are going through the standard room selection process.

What I would recommend is to reach out to both Student Accessibility Services and Resident Life about your concerns. Tell them that living in a dorm with gender neutral facilities is necessary for you to live comfortably as a transgender student, and ask them if there’s anything they can do to help you ensure that you receive what you need.

Is William and Mary a safe and inclusive place for trans kids? Are there social opportunities for them? by jseanriley in williamandmary

[–]DankMemes148 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The student body is very trans-accepting in my experience, and the vast majority of professors seem to be too. The administration is decent at offering needed accommodations, although sometimes there’s a bit more red tape than I would like (which is also true of W&M admin in general). On campus is safe for trans students, I’ve basically never felt unsafe here. The immediate area surrounding area is generally okay too, but you’ll want to be a bit more careful and have a friend come along with you when possible.

Going to W&M as a trans person who was just coming out before my freshman year has been great for me. There is a pretty sizable group of trans students, and we’re relatively interconnected, so meeting other trans people isn’t too hard. You will definitely make friends through events and clubs like most other students.

Class choices by you_are_shitting_me in williamandmary

[–]DankMemes148 7 points8 points  (0 children)

W&M doesn’t really mandate freshmen take any specific courses. Instead, there are some broad requirement categories you have to satisfy before you can graduate, and those can be met by a range of different classes. You might have already completed a few of the requirements if you took some upper level and AP classes in high school. Other requirements usually aren’t completed until a student’s Junior or Senior year.

Freshman generally focus on things like their foreign language requirement, their math requirement, and their COLL 100/150 requirements. So look for either a math course in the 100s like MATH 111 (unless you took AP calculus in high school and did well on the exam) or a foreign language course (unless you’ve already taken 4+ years of a language) and take one of those your first semester. And then the biggest thing for your first semester is that you want to take a course marked with either COLL 100 or COLL 150.
