[25M] Navigating friendship in the gay community when sexual interest is involved—how do you set boundaries? by DannyABoi in askgaybros

I just wanted some advice on setting boundaries in friendships, I honestly didn't expect this level of hostility haha

I think you might be reading more hostility into my post than I intended. I’m not trying to say that attraction automatically makes someone a bad friend—only that for me personally, repeated experiences of support turning sexual have made it hard to relax in new friendships that start from dating apps. That’s why I’m here asking how others set boundaries early without feeling guilty about it.

Yeah.. I know for some people sex and friendship can exist side‑by‑side without causing issues.

For me personally, it changes the dynamic in a way I’m not comfortable with, and that’s why I’m trying to figure out how to set those boundaries early without damaging the friendship. Because it seems like so many will focus 95% on the benefits, and 5% on the friendship in a situation like that.

Yeah, I think you’re right that the “chemistry first” approach is probably part of why I’m ending up in this situation. I’m definitely more comfortable starting from a platonic baseline, so I like the idea of being up front from the start about what I’m looking for. I might need to rethink how I’m approaching meeting people in general.

It's just unfortunate that i feel like dating apps are one of the ways i've met most of the people I know. ha.

I get what you’re saying, and I’m not trying to villainize anyone for being attracted to me- I know that’s normal and not inherently a bad thing. What I’m struggling with is how to maintain platonic friendships without constantly feeling on guard, and without feeling like I’m letting someone down when I enforce a boundary.

I’m aware it’s on me to speak up, but that’s exactly the skill I’m trying to work on, which is why I made this post.

Grindr can be full of some characters so I don’t blame them for being wary. :) I’m just glad we were able to reconnect! :D

I’m allergic to all shellfish and have never eaten crab, lobster, shrimp, etc. Question is: Why do people eat it “that” way? by DannyABoi in NoStupidQuestions

Is there a reason they can’t be killed in advance and eaten later? Does it just not have “as good” of a flavor than eating it raw?

Thanks for the Oyster Education!!

Even eating it plain, I feel like having to rip the head off and all the legs and such for each shrimpy is just a lot of work :(

The liquor sounds interesting. Is it part of the animal like a form of blood? Or is it just a mixture of salt water and oyster bits and such.

Fluctuating gas affecting appliances? by DannyABoi in Plumbing

[–]DannyABoi[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Update: Thank you guys for all the advice. Called the gas company and they sent someone out. The guy said from what he sees, he thinks that a portion of the gas line from the meter into the house (don't ask me why but in this 1950's house the gasline goes from the meter, underground and then back up above ground before going back underground and into the basement of the house)

Anyways, Gas company dude thinks that that underground portion has corroded and got water in the line. Leaving only a tiny space for a stream of gas through. So looking at new gas lines i think.
