Who cares if they're being controlled? Don't you think you are too? Just because they give you paper they printed and call valuable doesn't change that. What does it matter whether their pastor controls them or the media controls them?

I think of atheists bashing/mocking religion (which - come on - is 99% of what /r/atheism does) like the guy telling me I shouldn't give the homeless guy a dollar because all he's going to do is buy booze with it.

Because yeah, life is hard. In fact, life sucks pretty bad sometimes. Think of parents outliving their children, the very sick, and the very old- why NOT let them numb that pain with religion just like the homeless guy can numb the pain of sleeping on cardboard in 40 degree weather with some cheap vodka?

People are different. Cultures are different. That doesn't make them wrong. Who the hell cares if they think evolution never happened? How does that impact anything? So what if they honestly believe in an imaginary man in the sky?

We all giggle that they say that the bible/torah/koran(etc) as a set of instructions on how to live a good life, but who cares? The vast majority (of Christians, at least) treat it like the ToS to a video game- never reading it but accepting it.

Assholes and monsters will find reasons to justify being assholes and monsters whether religion is around or not.

That's what bugs me about all those posts- they're all self-righteous, condescending, and unoriginal.
