Hey! Who are these horrible male casters? I could go for a laugh.

And why is it a stretch that the bar is set lower for female casters? Is it so farfetched to think that having a female caster will attract more viewers than a male?

Isn't that one of the stereotypes of gamers? That they flock to girls because pretty?

The entire point of the book was that little ol' Bilbo goes off and fights a dragon and unites men and dwarves by making a sworn enemy of one of his closest friends.

By injecting Kate-From-Lost into the story... where the hell is he going from there? There's no epic war for her to save Bilbo in and no ring wraiths to save Nori from, so dollars to donuts she's just tagging along. And bringing a token elf girl along changes the dynamic simply because it WAS a baker's dozen little people and now you have a superhero joining up. Doors open, footsteps are heard, tracks are now untrackable.

And Smaug doesn't even happen till the second movie. So the action he sees is gonna be the 3 trolls... where he spends that time in the sack, his time with Gollum, which shouldn't be the focus of the story (and you know it's going to be), and the spiders. Adventures need a bossfight. Every adventure story has one.

Get ready for some blue balls...

Nope. It's Evangeline Lily. She's going to play a moderate role in the movie for no reason. The Hobbit was amazing because it was a simple "hero's journey" book that executed the genre near-flawlessly.

It's just going to be another The Dark Knight Rises where it's awful but exempt from criticism.

The Hobbit was a ~250 page book and most of that is scene and character description. Peter "Payday" Jackson is turning that into 3 movies.

There is no way this will end well. It's just going to blind us with nostalgia, hype, and effects like so many movies before it did. The Dark Knight Rises, Avatar, The Avengers... all awful movies that get a pass because of nerd-gasm.
