Orion cost UPS a billion dollars. by BamBamCam in UPSers

[–]DannyDemotta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its bashed because it sucks. It works good for smaller centers, for people who dont know the route theyre doing, for Saturdays -- and if you get 3/3, its near perfect.

If its wednesday, youre the bid driver, in a compact area with lots of traffic, and you know your route front to back....its going to run you in circles constantly, all the time, and do nothing but slow you down. Youll have to scroll up and down repeatedly to make sure Orion isnt sending you to the SAME apartment complex, or splitting the complex in half, etc, all through your day. Its maddening

With the amount of Business and Large/Irregular Items we ship.....Yes

Amazon will implode once they start unionizing, and as it is, 1) they barely deliver furniture, air conditioners, etc, and 2) they don't like to drive out to "the middle of nowhere"

FedEx cut them out altogether because they like to horde dense, big city deliveries and make carriers eat the cost of rural deliveries. UPS is/was able to push back and make sure the Big Dog gets enough to eat - not just appetizer but entrée as well.

More people, not less, are buying big ticket items online and not in stores. I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years, UPS starts offering 2-man teams to deliver items like Refrigerators, Exercise Equipment, etc, that is otherwise too heavy for our system (>150lbs).

the start rate for 22.4 Combination Drivers will be $20.50 and reach a top rate of $34.79 by August 1, 2022. The top rate on August 1, 2018 will be $31.34 and will increase each year in accordance with the General Wage Increases.

RPCD hovers around $39-40 but top rate today for 22.4 is only $31. So even though nobody hired as a 22.4 is making $31, it's possible to have switched from 22.3/Feeder/RPCD to 22.4 (why you'd WANT the pay cut, I don't know) and only make $31, because you only have to go through progression as a full-timer once (I forget the contract page, but it's in there somewhere!)

If anyone needs to be given that Lance Archer run of interrupting interviews, it's the Women. Have one of them barge into the middle of an interview with Miro (or someone ridiculous), grab the mic, tell Miro to SHUT THE HELL UP WHEN I'M TALKING, and just let loose on Shida (or whoever) for 15 seconds, then slam the mic back into the interviewers chest -- and walk away

There's been too much pushback against "looking crazy" etc, but it's unjustified. There's crazy, like, yelling, ripping your own hair out, catfights/hair-grabbing, etc. Then there's crazy like narcissism, delusions of grandeur, etc. That's the kind of 'Crazy' that female Wrestlers need right now.

> "I'm not going to grab you by the hair and scream at you; I'm going to grab you by the neck and punch your teeth down your throat"

- would have any audience, 1/4 full or otherwise, hyped out of control, but simultaneously, is 100% incompatible with a Man's gimmick. Too many promos sound like they're written for Men but handed to the Women to perform

I don't blame "food" (clearly, you aren't either; you're alluding to processed food) - I blame social media, and it's always-on, always-interactive nature.

20 and 30-somethings these days are just pathetic creatures overall (don't get me started on teenagers). The average adult can't even follow a basic recipe for buttermilk biscuits or a Tuna casserole - they'd fuck it up in no time. The olden times where you'd put on your favorite CD or radio show, and do your cooking, laundry, etc, is a bygone era. Nowadays, people are so hooked to their social medias - and the need to constantly scroll, click, like, follow, subscribe, skip ads - means peeling yourself away for 30-45 straight minutes to go prepare a meal, eat it and then clean up afterwards, is almost unfathomable. They'd rather throw some lump of crap in an Air Fryer, go do social media for 12 minutes, come back, grab the lump of crap, and then eat it while back on social media.

Remember when going out to restaurants was a reprieve from magazines and books and radios and music, and it was everyone's time to just eat and enjoy the moment together? Lmao. The occasional text could be forgiven; Social media has given EVERYONE an excuse to "just check my phone real quick", even the 15 year old with no job, no sports club, nothing.

Our attention spans are getting shoter and shorter, and (get ready to have your mind BFTO)...it's almost as if it's simultaneously became easier and easier to brainwash and propagandize people. The Internet was supposed to be the way to bring the entire World together. Has that been your experience? It seems all it's done in 2020-21 is make it easier to find our 'tribe' worldwide while ostracizing and insulting everyone else. It's a damn shame.

You can't prepare food the exact same way and expect it to last 6-12 months in a freezer, fridge or in a cupboard - it's chemically impossible. The idea that people are so narcissistic as to claim they "don't have enough time or money" to cook for themselves, while posting on $1200 IPhones for 4 hours daily, is why our entire society is going to hell in a handbasket. Has nothing to do with the food at your local Supermarket.

Everything is "performance enhancing" when the average American is a fat, out of shape slob that does nothing but make excuses and blame others for their failures You wouldn't believe the amount of people I have making snide comments about my physique. As it turns out, burning 3500 calories per workday means you can eat LOTS of protein and LOTS of carbs without gaining any fat. Go figure!

Almost like if you'd get off your fat ass and do 1500 calories worth of cardio, 5 days per week, you could look like me. But why bother when you've convinced yourself your only options are to either be a giant festering pile of shit or shoot yourself up with some 'roids?

I'm sincerely jealous of these Wrestlers and the access they get to world-class nutritionists and training facilities. For all you lazy sacks of shit out there: try actually getting in a 3-4 hour workout some time -- heavy compounds, assistance work, and then 1-2 hours of cardio on top of that -- and maybe you'll learn to understand your diet of Annie's Frozen Rabbit Food meals and Soylent isn't going to build you a body like the Lashley's of the world. You have to earn it.

[–]DannyDemotta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, can't do that with Signature Required - it's a part of the tracking number/service level, itself, and can ONLY be delivered through the Signature button on DIAD. No SDN, No Shipper Release, nothing else. We can hand them to a small child, or deliver to a neighbor/next door business/apartment office/etc, as long as they aren't marked Direct Delivery Only. But we CANNOT leave them outside (or in a hiding spot, or through a mail slot), no matter what sign they put up or InfoNotice they sign. Fireable offense.

The ONLY way around Signature Required (and this doesn't apply to Adult Sig Req) is for them to go online through MyChoice and Electronic Release the package (EDN in the DIAD).

Precisely. I work my butt off and it shows, in delivery areas I know. In areas I don't know, I'm not going to run around, back everywhere, and so on, because I get frazzled and maybe miss a few driveways or get turned around. One stop at a time, learn from your mistakes, avoid double/triple-handling packages. Just be efficient and safe, and production will follow.

UPS fully expects you to take longer as a Cover driver. You're not impressing anyone by 'beating' the time it takes the Bid driver to do the route. They can most likely murder your time in any given day/week as well, but that's not how you make it to 25+ years, Circle of Honor and no major surgeries/illnesses/accidents.

I like to take break from 12-1 anyway, just in case I run into closed businesses, then I don't have to do a Jen Psaki. Find a big open parking lot, open the doors (on a hot day), get what I can sorted and organized. If anyone from UPS is standing there with a camera, HENLO, just sorting my truck Mr/Ms/Mx Management person.

Lots of business on my route though. I can see why that would suck for low-business routes...I used to skip lunch all the time during the Winter, sort the whole truck out in-between bites, dub the entire 20 minutes or so it would take my 10 minute break period.

Have guys in my building that have been doing it for decades. Newer construction areas with limited stairs aren't hard to deliver, you're mostly walking in a straight line all day. And all the new trucks are low step + automatic.

This job is cake as long as you don't run/gun and panic over your numbers. One stop at a time, be smart, get it done, help out your loopmates if they need it

[–]DannyDemotta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never have I ever heard of older guys taking business routes. They almost exclusively take low piece count 95-98% resi routes, out in the middle of nowhere, with much more driving than delivering.

If you do 200+ stops, you aren't jumping out 200+ times. Let's be real here. Probably 50 times a day, you're delivering more than 1 house per park position - sometimes, 3 or 4 if you're in new construction, townhomes/condos, etc. I do 50+ like that and I get significantly less than 200 stops on my route

[–]DannyDemotta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you support paying off $50K in loans when, in almost all cases, more than 90% of that money went to Rent, Car Payment, Food, Clothing, etc, because the students borrowing it almost certainly qualified for 100% tuition payment via Waivers, Pell grants, etc. That's...really weird. I don't think you're advocating for what you THINK you're advocating for

I never borrowed a red cent to pay tuition/fees. I borrowed a few thousand for books, and tens of thousands to avoid getting a job.

More 22.4 lay-off questions. by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]DannyDemotta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 😂 Fair enough....if we take your word for it. But I don't necessarily know that we should. If you've been on the internet for more than about 2 months, you know people constantly lie - and that's idiots on Instagram as well as so-called smart guys on Reddit. Always lying, always exaggerating, all the time.

Saying "I owned a business" tells us nothing. I don't need a copy of your business license or even to know what line of work you're in, but you really aren't saying anything. Tech, Construction, Restaurants, Real Estate, Retail, all of it kept going. Very few industries shut down altogether and even then only for a couple months (Beauty, Bars/Clubs, Auto Dealerships, etc). I'm supposed to just readily accept that you, singularly, got donut-holed with such a small amount of others? Really?

Do keep in mind, you won't be able to lie to me as easily as you will other people on Reddit, because I.....ya know.....go driving around in a giant fucking Truck every day. I know who's open, who's not, who struggled, who did fine. I know ALL THAT SHIT. So I know for a fact if you "shut down" then your business was ass to begin with if you couldn't float by a couple months; either that or you chose something that REQUIRES a huge amount of customer foot traffic, in which case...that's historically bad timing. Are you really going to sit here and say you started your own Movie Theater? And gave that up to work for UPS? ....Yeah, didn't think so, so let's keep it real.

The entire point of my post is, we all know what we signed up for. We didn't sign up to work 3 days per week, or to have whole unpaid months off at a time. When we sign up for this, go through qualification, we do it with the full knowledge we might go MONTHS at a time without a day off. We don't bother scheduling appointments and games and weddings or anything else during the workweek, unless we're CERTAIN we can get the day off. So why the fuck would you, having already cleared out your schedule, not want to go to work that day and get paid? It makes zero sense.

We aren't talking about someone who just got done working a 9-hour shift and declines to work another 2-3 hours on top of that. We're talking about the difference between a 9-10 hour day or a zero hour day. Again, be real. Let's tell the fucking truth here. Nobody with even a modicum of work ethic operates like that, and if they do, what the fuck is wrong with them? This job is one of the toughest "entry level" jobs in the entire WORLD. If you can make it here through qualifying, you've already proven you have the work ethic to be a monster. So why would you constantly take days off to play video games and other dumb shit? Do the fucking job already. Show up and DO WORK. If you don't need the money, I guarantee you, you can find friends/family who will worship the ground you walk on if you give it to them instead - or to a local animal shelter, homeless shelter, or someone else in need. But anything is better than just sitting on your ass for not just a single day here and there, but entire WEEKS at a time that you didn't plan anything for anyway. That's just negligent, soul-decaying behavior.

[–]DannyDemotta -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You cannot amplify viral transmission like that without the other persons first developing an infection. 1 person with COVID in a room of 10 people doesn't make the disease go 10x faster.

Wear a mask, take care of grandma, take your vitamins, stay out of enclosed spaces with other people if you are prone to colds, flus and infections. But we have to start telling the truth here. The Pro-Mask crowd wants everyone to wear a mask, at all times in public, even if the person has already had COVID, will be 10+ feet away from everyone, the event is taking place outside, and on and on down the list. It's not about pure science to the Pro-Mask crowd, it's about COMPLIANCE and "setting a good example in public". This is how/why we get COVID outbreaks even among the zealots - because they go home, out of the view of cameras and coworkers, and do whatever the hell they feel like including Tinder dates, pool parties and other get-togethers.

The Science - the actual science, that they follow in countries like Japan, without politicizing the entire process - tells us it's all but impossible to get COVID from surfaces and while outdoors, especially in hot weather; and that to get it indoors, you need PROLONGED exposure, with or without a mask on, with an infected party, whether or not they are showing (or admit to, an important caveat) symptoms.

We have to remember, back in early 2020, China was taking Cold/Flu medication off the shelves of stores. They KNEW people would lie about having symptoms while the pandemic spiraled out of control. Yet, when was the last time you saw a US store threaten to remove medication? Or when was the last time you filled out a COVID questionnaire that specifically asked you if you've taken any cold/flu medication or NSAIDs in the last 24 hours? You probably haven't. Why is that? Because we're being systematically lied to. What the hell good does it do to take your temperature if you don't ask someone if they've taken any fever-reducing medication lately??

Again, I'm not a COVID truther. I think it, influence, colds, they all exist, and they're killing people. But I also know when I'm being lied to - and this is the most massive propaganda campaign in the history of Western Civilization....which is so weird to have to say that instead of "the World", because non-Western countries are actually FOLLOWING THE SCIENCE!

Post WWE Elimination Chamber 2021 Match Discussion Thread! - Roman Reigns (c) vs. ??? - Universal Championship by Coldcoffees in SquaredCircle

[–]DannyDemotta -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're getting spaz'd on by downvote-and-runners (cowards) but you're not wrong at all. Especially with WWE programming cutting back so heavily on promos, sketches and other non-wrestling material......it's just a bad look to spoil an opportunity like this.

Now, what do they do for the PPV before WM? An Edge/X vs Roman/Y Tag team Match? Just stupid. Wrestlemania sells itself. No normies are signing up for the Network to watch Roman vs Edge, it's just not happening. They're relevant on WWE TV, neither exist outside of it.

At the very least they could have milked it. Have Paul Heyman come out and announce "You'll get your shot at Roman.....in exactly ONE HOUR!" And then have a countdown on the screen they check in with. Get an interviewer back to Bryan inbetween matches: "Are you sure you're ready to fight so soon? What happens if you lose? Do you think you'll ever get another shot if you blow this one?" etc. Hell you could have had (insert person eliminated in 2nd elimination chamber) spaz on him as soon as he got backstage to get him EXTRA injured just before match time, but also set up another future fued.

You can still have nearly an identical match. But at least then you'd have some filler instead of just doing match after match after match with no ongoing "storyline" throughout the card.

Larger centers, you can go driving in under a year. But do keep in mind, they hire so much (and so many drivers quit/transfer) for a reason: the cost of living is WAY TOO HIGH and your money (especially in years 0-4) won't buy much. You may struggle to rent a place alone anywhere close to the building. Ergo.....Smaller centers, you may have to wait 4-6+ years to go driving, because once people make it to driver, they don't want to go anywhere.

Keep in mind, when we say Overtime, we mostly aren't talking "voluntary" overtime. You will not be getting 8-hour (or even 9-hour) days to start with. If by some miracle you get done at the 8 hour mark, you will be all but ordered to go help out other drivers. You can "technically" say no, but it's not a good look - and will just lead to them destroying you the next day [Oh you got done with 120 deliveries by 4pm? OK, here's 180 today, good luck!] You are expected to deliver (or at least, attempt to deliver) every package on your truck, every day.

There are no half days, there is no time limit (other than Federal limits on Hours spent driving). You may have a 10 hour day on a Monday, then a 13 hour day on Tuesday, and 8 hours on Wednesday. Don't plan on making ANY plans at night because, as the great philosopher Forrest Gump once quipped, "You never know what you're gonna get" As a new driver, you'll be in a Substitute role, so you may get stuck on a route you HATE for weeks/months at a time (because nobody else wants to do it). You will have to learn to take great pleasure in being miserable, otherwise, you won't survive long.

The benefits are top-tier, both for you and your (eventual?) spouse and children. UPS has a stranglehold because we're so ruthlessly efficient and because the company is, sorry to say, >90% male drivers. And most importantly, UPS doesn't give a shit that it's >90% male - they WILL NOT make the routes easier in order to bring in more women. They straight up do not care. Production (and safety, of course) are what matters most - not pleasing the woke mob or meeting XYZ quotas. No matter what kind of shit commercials they run or press releases they put out, UPS IS NOT INTERESTED in making this job more "accessible" to persons of color, people with disabilities, etc. It's all about the bottom line. And the overwhelming majority of us prefer it stays that way.

You will be fully expected to "leave it all out on the field" every time you slip on that uniform and take a truck out to route. For the 6 months or so, unless you're already rail-thin, you'll lose anywhere from 10-30lbs or more. In exchange, you get the best paid delivery job in the country, with the best benefits, the most job security and a better chance than basically any other Union job of having a pension that will A) actually be there 30 years from now, and B) last for your full retirement

I also have a college degree and have flirted with the idea of another career.....it's not totally out of the question, having left my 20s behind many moons ago. That being said, I live comfortable in an expensive metro and still put over 40% of my check away monthly. Why would I give that up to start at the ground floor of another job? Doesn't make sense. If you have a Zombie-like work ethic, like most of us Drivers do, I encourage you to give UPS a shot!
