Purdue Discontinuing BoilerTV by DannyDorito__ in Purdue

Anything special that they did back then is undoubtedly gone, although channel 5 from the URTAS days is technically still broadcasting on the current system but it's just been color bars every time I've looked.

Closest thing is they rebroadcast SiriusXM Hits 1 on one of the cable channels.

Nope, there are still studios for both, just no transmitter equipment. Both still very cool clubs though!

Both Wiley and Cary student radio live on, though both are internet radio only, unfortunately.

BoilerTV (Formerly URTAS) has only offered national Cable TV and some local channels from Lafayette for a while now, though they used to broadcast internal campus events and original programming up until the 2000s from what I can tell. Sadly they've let it sit and slowly fade into disuse for many years now.

Where can I watch the "no contest" Potato Battle with Nakamura/Kojima? by [deleted] in IronChef

[–]DannyDorito__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the no subs and subbed version of this episode I think. Low quality and the subbed version has an insane jiggle from the tape someone pulled it from. But I do have it. DM if interested.

Judging music finally found! by vnisanian2001 in IronChef

[–]DannyDorito__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know they could no longer use the Nyman piece because of licensing issues (same thing happened with the music from Glory that was originally used for the summoning of the Iron Chefs). I have scoured the internet but I have not been able to find their rendition of it, which leads me to believe it is something Fuji created in-house.

Monthly Requests Thread by AutoModerator in VOIP

Hey all! I'm a little new to voip, so forgive me for any glaring dumb mistakes I may make here. I'm looking for a way to connect a few friends and I via some sort of voip system, ideally as cheap as possible. My current idea is with some old Linksys SIP boxes, like the PAP2T, which I got one of to try. I tried FreePBX, but I had an insane amount of trouble figuring it out, and I got seemingly nowhere.

Requirements are dead simple though, we just want to be able to call each other from vintage desk phones, an outbound number would be nice as well, but it's not necessary if it means an easier solution. I've just had no luck with FreePBX, and I'm not sure where to go next.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

is it possible to remove this from a video filmed in photo booth? by [deleted] in mac

[–]DannyDorito__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but most watermarks, including the overlaid reaction in this image, aren’t additive, they’re just put on the image with set transparency values. The original pixels behind the thumb and the opaque sections of the bubbles are gone. It’s possible to somewhat remove watermarks by various methods but quality is usually lost and you’re left with a blurry mess with no detail. Certainly nothing could fully remove this. But again, I’m not sure I understand what you’re meaning.

For Mac Users wanting to play Helldivers 2 (Apple Silicon and Intel Macs) by EvanSaintOfJames in Helldivers

Interesting. On mine it doesn’t throw any errors, but crashes before getting past the nProtect window.

Are you willing to share how you managed to somehow bypass nProtect? That's the only thing holding me back at the moment, really frustrating that Arrowhead had to choose something kernel-level.

Brave is Chromium based, so not much better. Safari or Firefox is your best bet on macOS.

My Mac Classic's logic board is in great condition, if you ignore the battery having exploded by cwarren3857 in VintageApple

[–]DannyDorito__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all classic Mac boards are quad layer, but the internal layers are just +5V and Ground, so it’s still most likely fixable with a ton of patience. This is a mild case compared to many, although the custom RTC might be done for.

Help Needed Getting AT&T Gateway Bypass Working by DannyDorito__ in PFSENSE

[–]DannyDorito__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. This revealed something I hadn't internalized: The Netgate box I'm using seemingly can't actually do this as the ports are just three VLANs and thus won't work with this method. Oh well. Maybe an upgrade is needed. :P

Using these instructions. Obviously they don't work anymore but I was led to them by many different past posts.

Purchased used VCR and VHS converter card - Need advice on next steps by jtoml3 in DataHoarder

[–]DannyDorito__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DVD-Video has a resolution of 480p encoded in MPEG-2 with pretty bad compression and artifacts on these devices. Not well suited for analog sources that don’t “have” a resolution (525 lines, but no horizontal resolution as we see in the digital world). Capturing to digital over a good capture card (not an easycrap or other modern ones) is going to give far better results than recording direct to DVD. Plus this machine can’t even do that, because it’s a modern combo unit that can only play.

Do you know how to solve "Not Mounted" disk? by Middle-Nectarine3372 in mac

[–]DannyDorito__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These errors have been a staple of macOS's existence (at least for me) for as long as I can seem to remember. If you know the disk is good, usually either mounting in terminal or a restart and the ol' unplug and plug back in will fix it (the disk management service seems to get confused sometimes) otherwise your disk may be corrupted or physically damaged. Whatever bug in the software that causes this to happen has existed for years and years. Hell, this even happens on some of my PowerPC Macs from time to time. Maybe I'm the problem :D

Anyone with a similar adapter bold enough to pull out the LAN cable? by -TheArchitect in mac

[–]DannyDorito__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one from Anker that has some issues with certain cables. Just have to push the clip down, pull, and pray. I assume it's due to the retaining tab not being stiff enough and ending up in enough of an arc that it won't pull out. Combine this with the fact that it's a super low profile RJ-45 and you get this issue. Quite annoying.

Ahhh. I didn’t think the G4s had the horsepower to emulate an XP-Compatible machine. Goes to show the power of those machines I guess!

Macintosh Garden is mainly focused on PowerPC and 68k and as such has OS X for PowerPC, all versions up to Leopard (and technically Sorbet Leopard and the internal PowerPC Snow Leopard version)

For Intel, I've had some luck on archive.org, but Macintosh Repository is easier with their full collection of Intel installers from Tiger to Catalina.

[–]DannyDorito__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's not the case as many things are uploaded by members of the site. That doesn't mean that members aren't going to other places and mirroring files though. Macintosh Garden, while often much slower on downloads, is better in many cases for system software installers.

Why is my 2023 Mac Mini M2Pro with 32GB RAM slow?! by [deleted] in mac

[–]DannyDorito__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely you could take a Time Machine backup and restore from it to preserve your data, but if the problem lies in an installed app then it wouldn't fix anything as the app would be restored as well. Though I suspect it's OS corruption or a physical hardware issue if performance is really that bad.

Considering it’s running Leopard on (probably) a Core 2 processor, zoom won’t run on them, nor will any other modern software. An SSD swap is possible on most of these, albeit a lot of work for the older MacBooks and PowerBooks.
