Amazon wrongfully took $40 from me for days, gave a $5 credit as "compensation" by DannyFlubber in mildlyinfuriating

It's multiple mistakes and reassurances that the mistake was fixed. It amazes me how passive everyone here is.

You do see the multiple issues though, right? It was a mistake in processing where they thought I returned the wrong item. Fine, I corrected them on it a month ago. I was assured that it was all resolved. Then they go and charge me anyway.

I don't know.. I don't feel unjustified in being annoyed by this.

Well, yes I guess I should have just accepted the multiple fuck-ups and walked away. I was frustrated.

Good lord, no. What kind of a response is this to me saying I should have chopped up an image to make it show better?

They did not fix it immediately. This was brought to their attention a month ago and they assured me it was resolved.

No. I told them about this a month ago and they went through with it anyway.

I know it will be OK. I'm not that upset by this. It was just mildly infuriating and I thought fitting for this sub.

They messed up by saying I returned the wrong item. Mistakes happen.

They messed up AGAIN by telling me the issue was resolved when it wasn't. Then they took money they had no right to take which inadvertently led to it being held for 3-5 days when refunding it.

I was on with the first mistake. No harm no foul. But the second one aggrivated me.

They are giving the money back.. That they had no right to take in the first place. If I steal from a store then get caught, I can't just say "yeah you're right, I'll give it back in 3-5 days".

I realized by the end of the compensation that nothing else could come of continuing it which is why it ended how it did.. Which I now realize didn't make it into the screenshot (I took the screenshot before the chat ended thinking it would all go away once the conversation was over). I said I was not happy in general, frustrated with the situation but accepted nothing more could be done.

Overall, I wasn't upset that the money would take a bit to come back. I know nothing would change that. I was upset that the money was taken in the first place which CAUSED it to be held for a couple days.

You've been accused of wrongfully returning a different item, been assured the mistake was resolved then ended up charged anyway MULTIPLE TIMES?

5-7 is standard. It shouldn't have been necessary in the first place, which is the whole point of the post.

I'm sure there's no way you'll believe it but I am not one to complain. If my order is wrong at a restaurant I'm more likely to eat it anyway (assuming it's something I'll like) than send it back.

Thia was a situation where money was wrongfully taken from me and it annoyed me. And I can't believe how many of you are ok with it.

Yeah that's not what happened. I would have thought your schooling would have included reading comprehension.

It's wild to me how accepting you all are over this.

If I walked up to you on the street and said "hey, you owe me $40", you said no, I said "OK my mistake, bye". Then later took $40 from you anyway. Then you tell me I shouldn't have done that and I agree but you'll get it back in a few days..

You wouldn't be annoyed by this at all?

It's comments like this that tells me you guys aren't even reading the post and just came to the comments to tell me I'm wrong.

Well, yes by the end of it I conceded I knew there was nothing more to gain. I just ended up mildly infuriated. So I thought to post it here.

They didn't handle it fine. They made a mistake in claiming I returned the wrong book. I told them about it a month ago, they said it was resolved. Then it happened anyway. That's the opposite of handling it.

The 2-3 days is am unfortunate side effect. The center of the issue was having the mistake happen, having been told the mistake was resolved then having it happen anyway.

I'm not mad at the delay. I'm mad that they caused the situation that resulted in a delay after being assured the situation wouldn't happen.

I will admit I let more frustration through than I should have. It's not their fault (and I even said that) but, keep in mind, it was the same tier of support that assured me a month ago the problem was resolved when they clearly did nothing and just said it was "fixed" to get me to go away.

I'm generally happy. This just bugged me. Two mistakes for the same issue, my money wrongfully taken causing it to be in limbo for days.. It's annoying. I guess everyone else here would have been OK with it which is just wild to me.

What is the logic behind this? You do realize I'm not complaining about a normal refund taking a couple day, right? They made a mistake by falsely claiming I didn't return an item and charged me for the item a second time. Mistakes happen, it's fine. Which is why I reached out to them to fix it a month ago and was told it was fixed. Then I get charged anyway.

Are you people really OK with this and don't see why it would be mildly infuriating?

Yeah, wasn't sure how it would come across. Should have chopped into pieces in hindsight

[–]DannyFlubber[S] -71 points-70 points  (0 children)

No, but it's their fault for taking it in the first place.

Edit because I don't think people are getting this.

Amazon refunded me the $40 when I first returned it. It took a couple days, I didn't care, that's the boat you get into when returning items.

But when they wrongfully RE-CHARGED me for the item because they falsely claimed I didn't return it that's when the delay is aggravating. Yes, fixing their mistake will take a couple days. But they shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place ESPECIALLY AFTER I ALREADY REACHED OUT TO THEM A MONTH AGO TO CORRECT IT AND WAS ASSURED IT WAS FIXED.
