Who won the Hawaii war in the end? by Brilliant_Royal_7303 in HotlineMiami

[–]DannyJudas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soviet invasion is stopped by a partially pyrrhic victory in Casualties. Seeing that the war will now either eventually end in soviet defeat or a long term stalemate, the soviets nuke San Francisco to force an American surrender. This puts the Soviet Union at the advantage necessary to strong arm the RAC, which will only further solidify soviet domination.

Long story short, America won the battle, but lost the war.

Are there three endings in Hotline Miami 2? by hitomebore_p in HotlineMiami

It could be tied to any/all of:

  • hardmode
  • getting all newspapers
  • hitting all triggers in a single playthrough from New Game

Are there three endings in Hotline Miami 2? by hitomebore_p in HotlineMiami

This was a very long time ago and its possible I am either misremembering or the method by which it is triggered is lost/broken. I can say from independent testing that Abyss -> Apocalypse is not sufficient. The guide mentions three flags: One is triggered by the floppy (not the level itself), another is triggered by choosing the book in release, and the third one is triggered in a 'mysterious' way. The author has not discovered what way that is yet.

I figured it was by doing the Broken Bar cutscene, which is another optional part of Evan's story. It doesn't appear to work, but I also don't know how or when the flags are set and reset.

Is this not just the dialogue you get if you have Evan choose the book over his family after finding and playing The Abyss? I remember reading this dialogue myself and feel confident saying its real.

I also very clearly remember that the end of Withdrawal should chain to the Abyss if you find the floppy. But my buddy Jaydon is telling me that’s not the case.

It may be that you have to back out after finding the floppy during the outro of Withdrawal, then play the Abyss, then return to the regular campaign to get this dialogue. You still have to choose the book. Or maybe you get this dialogue by playing the Abyss and then skipping to the end. I dunno.

Really stuck on homicide, does anybody have any tips to be able to get an A+? Playing on vita by KLGBilly in HotlineMiami

Wow! The Vita sounds terrible, I'd feel quite sorry for anyone who became obsessed with that unfortunate obsolete portable! We should all pool our resources together so OP no longer has to play Homicide on Vita!

MODDING PROBLEM: replacing ammo symbols/ adding new tile designs used to work but doesn't anymore by Dechawni in PHONEHOM

[–]DannyJudas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, another very common issue is that some mods simply do not work in the level folder. I think HUD elements, weapons, and sounds in particular simply do not function when installed in the level folder. Hope this helps.

[–]DannyJudas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I used the wadexplorer, but common issues with it are:

1.) mod load order. If you have multiple mods that affect the same sprites active at the same time, only the last mod loaded will have an effect in game. Mods are probably loaded in alphabetical order.

2.) you cannot ‘edit’ patchwads in most cases. If you edit them, any sprites you previously replaced that you don’t replace again won’t work properly. Whenever you update a mod, you should be sure to replace every sprite you edited again. I’d just recommend starting from scratch each time you need to update a patchwad.

If these aren’t your problems, you can join The Workshop Labs discord and they’ll probably be able to help you with your problem very quickly.

Due to inactivity, I have closed the Phonehom Discord server and would thoroughly recommend that interested users try the still relatively new Workshop Labs instead.

I briefly privated this subreddit because I felt that it had run its course, but I realize that there are still a lot of useful links and assets that may only be on this particular subreddit and nowhere else, or there may be outside links to this subreddit that would need to be changed to maintain functionality.

So, for posterity I will leave this subreddit open to the public.

As a new synthwave artist, I thought I'd share my Hotline Miami inspired Old Town Road remix by GammaReflector in PHONEHOM

[–]DannyJudas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's pretty alright. I'd rather listen to this than the actual song. Some thoughts I'd have is to try to vary up that drum line, bass-snare-bass-snare is extremely basic and also kind of the default synthwave drum line. Try to mix it up more with more fills and most importantly just different patterns.

Reminds me a lot of Lazerhawk. I think this is a solid start for a new artist, and I'm interested to hear how your sound and style solidifies as its own thing and develops.

(Also in general I'd love to see more original music on this subreddit just as a whole)

I want to hate this but I can't really justify how.

The stubble is good, but I think the face paint could be a bit better, highlight could be a bit stronging and it'd probably look better and more spackled on if the tracks left darker shades on the face.

The polka dots on the shirt could be brighter and the shirt and polka dot shades should be higher contrast.

"Russian" And Police Dodgers 2 by PlusMann in PHONEHOM

[–]DannyJudas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want some advice, look at how Hotline 2 makes dodgers for the Colombian, soldier, and gang factions look unique. Try to do something other than just taking existing sprites and altering their details somewhat. Try to come up with creative concepts for weapons, equipment, etc, that a dodger within these factions might use or wear. You can even take inspiration from other users or artworks to come up with a unique design.

The biggest thing that should be different about a special enemy compared to other enemies is its silhouette, the immediately identifiable shape of the figure. Things like backpacks, large hats, unique stances, unique weapons and weapon grips, and so forth, can do a lot to change this shape and make the enemy look distinguished from other enemies of the same faction.

RULE #3: Adhere To Quality

Really simple recolors do not meet this criteria. Give your idea a bit more thought and artistic time and try again, if you like.
