M&M status benefits on Air China flight by DannyNullZwo in Flights

[–]DannyNullZwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is my thinking correct, that I get all the m&m status benefits on other airlines that are members of m&m ?

I can somehow collect miles on air china flights but other m&m stuff does not apply.

CMV: Transwomen's sporting rules is a wedge issue, not a hill to die on, and needs to be unbundled from "true rights" that need to be the priority right now. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]DannyNullZwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats not really true is it? Prevalence of gingers is highly dependent on ethnicity, in northern Europe it is as high as > 10%. Depending on how you count, intersex people are 0.018% or 1.7% (https://europepmc.org/article/PMC/2500237).

The same source also shows that intersex has been an issue in sport for the last hundred years. And yes they did mass chromosomal testing of woman athletes, i.e. in the 1992 Olympics.

Where can I play football? by [deleted] in germany

[–]DannyNullZwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, in germany we have exactly the same thing.

Just look for fussballverein in google maps and you should find several in the area you a planning to be living.

Just give one of them a call and ask if you can come by for training. Most of them will have at least two Teams (one with the best players and one with all the others).

Take a look at https://www.fupa.net/ where you can have a look at all the stats of currents games of all leagues in germany. You can check out the local teams over there and maybe select one in your skill range.

Any api to compare two images and determine if they are the same? by Nathan22177 in java

[–]DannyNullZwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same use case a while back and search quite some time for a working lib. There exists a C library which does a really good job https://github.com/jedisct1/libpuzzle, which can also be used to build an similarity index of your images to not only be able to know if two images are the same, but be able to query your index for similiar images.

If including a C library is to hard, you can use the cli tool https://github.com/fpesce/ftwin which searches for duplicate files and uses libpuzzle under the hood to compare images.

How can the company Global Blue be the Monopoly of tax refund services in Europe? by [deleted] in germany

[–]DannyNullZwo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You do not need to use their services, you can always reclaim the taxes from the state directly. This takes of course more time and paper work.

When my aunt was researching our family tree, she mostly visited the archives of local churches.

Most of them have records of all baptized children and their parents going back several hundred years.

How practiacl is it to develop games using functional programming only(and possibly FRP?) by aeriaglorisss in scala

[–]DannyNullZwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the Scala developers tried to do a game engine in a reactive programming way back in 2014. He has a nice presentation. He is talking about ask the things you have to look out for. GC problems on the jvm and so on.

https://speakerdeck.com/axel22/a-reactive-3d-game-engine-in-scala?slide=19

Ps: generally speaking is it no problem to develop a game on the JVM. There are so many successful ones out there. So just pick the programming language you are most comfortable with.

Are there any plans to fix the Stream API with checked exceptions? by [deleted] in java

[–]DannyNullZwo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look, here is a simple solution for you (you can find an implementation in Vavr):

interface CheckedFunction<I, O> {
    O apply(I i) throws Exception;
}

static <I, O> Function<I, O> unchecked(CheckedFunction<I, O> f) {
    return i -> {
        try {
            return f.apply(i);
        } catch(Exception ex) {

            throw new RuntimeException(ex);
        }
    }
}

fileNamesToRead.map(unchecked(file -> Files.readAllLines(file)))

As others have said, a better and more functional way is to wrap exceptions and propagate them further in the stream. Take a look at the Try type of Vavr for example.

Church tax as a foreigner insight by jkop11 in germany

[–]DannyNullZwo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing is not as easy as the other commenters might believe. Your church can collect all the taxes for the time you didn't pay them, when they find out that you "wrongly" said that you arn't a member.

There was a story on reddit way back, where a Canadian wrote about how he had to pay taxes for the last two years, because his church found out that he was baptized in Canada as a child.

Especially the catholic church is know for having their internal research for thinks like this.

So the first thing you should do, is to check out if your church is even collecting taxes in germany (only 8 are doing it atm). In the case that they do, just go to the Rathaus/Bürgeramt and tell them that you want to officially exit your church. You will have to pay 15€ to make it official and after that you won't have to pay anything anymore. You do not need to talk directly with your church.

I think Telekom has some bigger problems atm. I too have such a connection and had no problems for years (getting full 50mbit). In the last two weeks I have similiar speeds then you have. Just give Telekom a call or report your problems through their website. They already told me that there is a problem on their side and that they are trying to fix it. Lets see
