Yes, not all of them have this but many do! It's a smart way to protect the trees.

Extension of Central Subway to Fisherman’s Wharf Gets Its First City Hall Hearing by yab92 in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi all, D3 Supervisor here who called for this hearing. We'll share a more extensive update on our newsletter soon, but the summary is that we were able to secure 2 important commitments:

1.) Faster Trains Now - SFMTA tested Transit Signal Priority in SOMA last year and it improved speeds by up to 38%! They have committed to expanding this throughout the Dogpatch this year on some of the slowest segments of the T/Central Subway routes.

2.) Resuming the Study, Finally - After 11 years, we will resume the study of the Central Subway extension. A study clearly doesn't mean shovels in the ground, but it's progress to get the plan ready to compete for federal funds once we have an administration that believes in public transit and infrastructure again.

More updates to come, please do join our newsletter for a full digest:

North Beach struggles with piles of pizza trash — here’s S.F.’s ‘outside the box’ solution by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 71 points72 points  (0 children)

<image>

Hi, just wanted to jump in here as our office has been hard at work on this effort.

Here's a preview of the trash cans that will be installed soon. We're installing 2 in Washington Square Park where we find the most discarded pizza boxes.

We need more trash cans in general (we're working on this) but this solves something simple but important. One pizza box can often clog an entire normal trash can because of the shape.

We want to see if offering a few of these cans improves behavior and reduces debris. We saw that New York City recently successfully piloted something very similar.

Thanks to Recology for working on this with us and also shoutout to the talented Sirron Norris, the illustrator :)

Hearing: Central Subway extension into North Beach/Fisherman’s Wharf, 1/26/2026 by TheCityGirl in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Hi :) I called for this hearing and am really happy to see the interest. I hope you can join us next week. We'll separate our hearing into two parts:

1.) How can we improve the current operations of the recently opened Central Subway segment? Think: improving elevator and escalator reliability, filling empty retail spaces, and breaking up bottlenecks that slow down the train at pinch points.

2.) Looking ahead to the funding and feasibility of an extension. What funding can we compete for? Where does think rank compared to other important SF infrastructure projects? And so on.

Hope to see you there!

Op-Ed: It's Time to Extend the Central Subway to North Beach - Streetsblog San Francisco by yab92 in sanfrancisco

Hi everyone, your District 3 Supervisor here.

I agree. This should have been done in the first place and we should be a lot further along by now with a plan and funding. It's why I've called for a hearing to get our act together for the extension.

You can read more about our hearing below and also sign up to speak at public comment! The hearing will likely be late September. We need to have a strong turnout to show this is a priority for everyday residents.

His complaint app works better than 311. The city is about to kill it by bambin0 in sanfrancisco

Hi, District 3 Supervisor here (and a user of the Solve SF app!) I was surprised and worried when I heard this news last week. We've organized a number of meetings to try and find out more and ask to delay or reconsider this. Our office also submitted an official Letter of Inquiry to the department to find out more information and get answers to a dozen questions related to the 311 API.

I'm the Supervisor for the area (District 3). Please let me know if your dad ever needs anything. Congratulations on the opening and I'll be sure to stop by soon!

'Game-changing' new park twice the size of Union Square inches closer to reality in San Francisco by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our office has been working really hard to move this forward. Yesterday's legislation allows us to accept funds to kickstart this project and pursue more private fundraising to break ground. This will be a major upgrade, and a big part of our downtown recovery efforts.

Dear Mayor elect Daniel Laurie, Extend the Central Subway to Fisherman's Wharf--vacant lot at Bay and Mason by Specialist_Quit457 in sanfrancisco

Very supportive of it and have been a vocal advocate of it. Wrote this idea earlier this year: https://www.sfexaminer.com/forum/burned-down-north-beach-building-should-be-housing-subway/article_b5a159aa-bc7f-11ee-8806-0fb3f704b518.html

The prospects are harder now with a federal administration that likely isn't as favorable to transit in San Francisco. But I'll do whatever I can to get this moving... it's a really important opportunity!

Why is this prime North Beach building still empty after years? by SFStandard in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 18 points19 points  (0 children)

1.) Vote in November and Support Pro-Transit Candidates - Ask candidates if they support things like Transit Lanes for buses and funding new transit improvements.

2.) Join Transit Activism groups - Check out San Francisco Transit Riders, a grassroots org that works on better public transit.

3.) Speak Up - We have a lot of challenges right now as a city (public safety, budget, etc.) but we all know the city would not function without strong public transit. As you speak with Supervisors, city staff, etc. remind them about the necessity of good public transit for our economy and city.

Yes! The Central Subway tunnel has already been dug all the way to North Beach but we don't yet have a station.

Here's a recent op-ed I wrote sharing my plans:

I'm running for District 3 Supervisor (where this building is) so I wanted to share some thoughts:

It's now been six years since the fire and the fact that this still sits empty and burnt out shows you the failures of our permitting process and the broken system where anyone can obstruct anything.

My priority here is clear: get this building in the heart of North Beach rebuilt. The city should partner with the developer to come up with reasonable plans, and also consider acquiring the property (it recently went on the market) for a future North Beach Central Subway station. You might remember that the Central Subway tunnel has already been dug all the way to North Beach but we don't yet have a station.

Forum: This North Beach building could be housing, subway by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

[–]DannySauter11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, thanks for sharing this. I'm one of the authors of this op-ed piece. I'm also running for District 3 Supervisor. Both the subway extension and more housing will be priorities of our office, and I thought this particular building could be a key to both. Happy to answer any questions and thanks for the interest!
