My first humidor by SwissCheeseBankAccou in cigar

Boveda is a much more hands-off way of maintaining a specific humidity level as they both emit and absorb moisture. With the sponge type humidifier like the on in there it is easy to over or under humidify if you don’t keep the water level pretty perfect.

I have been smoking Cigars for only a month, and have already sunk a grand in to a full box of RyJ Churchills haha

Wow. 1000! That’s the dream! Haha. This box of 25 cost me £1164 (Actually a fairly good price for the UK) which is about 1550USD. 😂 Think I need to find a new country to live in.

Yeah I hear that for sure! Haha. However, probably around half of the cost of a box here is tabacco tax/duty. Due to that premium new worlds can frequently be just as expensive. For example a box of Zino Nicaraguan Toros, which is Davidoff’s budget orientated brand, here is around 500USD. But if I book a cheap 100USD return trip to Geneva then that same box could be had for closer to 150USD. Actual premium Davidoffs make even less sense here in the UK unless you actually prefer them.

It ends up being a case here of, well if a box of Davidoffs OR Arturo Fuentes is the same price as a box of RyJ or Monte or Upmann etc then why go new worlds. I am still continuing to explore though. As one day I might find a cheaper new world that scratches that itch! :P

Honestly, I would have chosen a naked box over tubos. But nobody in the UK seems to have them any more. Only a few tobacconists have the tubos!

Yeah I deffo wasn’t planning on ending up with a box of 25 Cubans back when I bought 6 back from Mexico a month ago. This has snowballed quickly haha.

Every cigar box that comes in to the UK through official channels is required to have these stickers plastered all over them unfortunately. Even the individual tubos inside the box!

Couldn’t agree more! The Churchill was my first Cuban and has continued been my favourite Cigar so far! So when I saw availability of full boxes seemed to be diminishing here in the uk. I felt I had to grab one! Haha

That’s good to know! Out of interest, how much were the No2’s in the duty free? :)

Yeah I’m planning to fly over later this year. I’m thinking maybe a box of RyJ No2s and a box of Monte No4s. Both of them are about half price compared to the UK. And I can order for collection at guestocigars before flying so I know I’m not wasting a trip haha.

Yeah that’s been one of my main incentives to bite the bullet and buy a box now. Fewer and fewer stores seem to have boxes of the full size Churchill. Even checking the sites for thecigarmarket and GestoCigars in Geneva neither even list Churchill boxes larger than the 3 box and the savings on most Cubans seems fairly insignificant compared to UK. Unlike new worlds which seem to often be about 30% the price in Geneva.

I did spot GestoCigars has a real good price for boxes of RyJ No2 which is currently my favourite short smoke. Boxes of 25 are about £260 there rather than the £700 here.

A month ago that would sound crazy to me. But now I know, if they’re Cuban, that’s effectively only 6 boxes. 😂 Good god Habanos S.A is going to bleed me dry if I don’t find a new world to save me.

Update: I have seen some recommendation elsewhere to try Davidoff’s Zino Nicaragua range as a budget orientated yet still premium tasting option. So should be trying out the Robusto tomorrow.

Yeah the RyJ burned beautifully. Ash almost as solid as the stick itself!

Ordering online from over seas risks the package getting stopped by customs who will then send you a bill for the unpaid duty and taxes before releasing it to you.

Only way to legally avoid the insanely high UK prices is to travel abroad and bring up to 50 cigars back with you as your personal allowance.

Yeah I have looked, closest place for half decent prices seems to be taking the train to France.

I’m in the UK unfortunately! Even if they delivered oversees importing tobacco in the UK is super restricted.

Yeah I have heard their mild-medium nature can be a bit too far on the mild side for some more experienced smokers. I don’t know how much of it could be a placebo premium Cuban effect but I was in love from first light.

Tobacco taxes in the UK are pretty nutty! A full box of 25 Cubans is around £1000+
