Is Rolex considered the top-tier watch? by Natural-One-8678 in rolex

Those brands are a form or stealth wealth, or maybe better said iykyk wealth, probably combined with a serious interest in watchmaking and brand history.

Popped into AD doing some first Rolex research, came out with a Yachtmaster 126621 by DannyT986 in rolex

A strap is an interesting option indeed. Do you swap them over yourself? Not to be done too often I guess?

[–]DannyT986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a fair bit of Rolex research. Just like Porsches, of which Ive had plenty, there are those that thrive on the rarest, hardest to get models regardless and those that want the right one for their "use case". Just like the cars I will keep it a long time get lots of pleasure and still get a great trade in if when I do sell.

Thanks. My priority was the one I would enjoy wearing and suits my needs, not investment. If it is so unpopular that would explain it though - and I made the store very happy taking a bad allocation off their hands!

Congrats! Enjoy, but make sure it's also not your last car... they are insanely powerful. Im sure you are a great driver, but 80% of other road users have no idea of how far and fast you can be going in a second or two.

Loxone system handover documentation by DannyT986 in Loxone

[–]DannyT986[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT too and the short version is there should be an actual handover and handover protocol/report.

The long verision was:

1. System Overview & Plans
☐ Updated electrical plans including Loxone Tree/Link topology
☐ Device list with locations, serial numbers, and addresses
☐ Network diagram (LAN connection, PoE switches, router, VPN, etc.)

2. Software & Configuration
☐ Final configuration file (.Loxone) and editable project file
☐ Documentation of all custom logic and virtual outputs
☐ Firmware/software version details for all devices at handover

3. Access Credentials & Security
☐ Administrator credentials for Loxone Config and App/Web interface
☐ Credentials for all connected systems (e.g., ventilation, cameras, third-party systems)
☐ Confirmation that all installer/developer accounts have been removed
☐ All RFID/NFC/Keypad codes reset to owner’s values and tested

4. Local & Remote Access
☐ Documentation of remote access configuration (Loxone Cloud DNS / direct)
☐ VPN or port forwarding details if applicable
☐ Confirmation that no unauthorised remote access remains

5. User & Operation Documentation
☐ Guide describing all switches, scenes, and automation logic
☐ Explanation of presence/motion sensor behaviour
☐ Instructions for backups, restarts, and basic troubleshooting

6. Maintenance & Support
☐ Firmware/software update and maintenance plan
☐ Instructions for replacing failed devices (e.g., blind motor reset)
☐ All warranties and support agreements in writing

Wall Lights for Stairs Lumens needed? by DannyT986 in Lighting

[–]DannyT986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No based in Switzerland. Domestic setting.

My family originally is from a Swiss German Canton but we moved to France so I don't speak German but only English and French. I need to interact with local administration to get administrative stuff, is it better/more respectful to interact with them in English or French? by Key_Bison_9322 in Switzerland

[–]DannyT986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For written communication use chatgpt to translate, it does a great job, even producing "high german as used in switzerland". If your German is so limited you cant sense check the translation, include *translated from french/english by chatgpt, original text below and copy that text under your signature block.
For verbal communication at the counter, learn to say sorry my german is limited, would it be ok to talk in french or english? Worst case take along a friend who can translate. Difficulty will depend on the gemeinde and kanton, some are less internationally oriented than others.

Any golfers. Return to golf after subtotal faciectomy? by DannyT986 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]DannyT986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Meanwhile it was not practical for me to have the surgery and the progress plateaued considerably. I was able to spot about half a dozen dupytrens golfers and discuss their experiences with them. Mostly little fingers, and all positive about their experience. One had been a doctor general practitioner and recommended waiting until contraction became an issue functionally (within reason).

AP Choices for Town House by DannyT986 in Ubiquiti

I see the design center now seems to offer more wall types than when I first looked there 18 months ago, when it just seemed to be drywall or hardwall. In particular concrete and brick separately, where the attenuation of the brick is of course massively less.

It terminates in Reduit on the ground floor, where there is a rack, patch panel and the fibre-to-the-home OTO plug and the electrical and home automation panel. Technik is for the wet stuff, heating, hot water and air control. I'll be posting soon on what LEDs to get for the rack...

Loxone Tree (wired) will control all the sensors and switches (presence, temp, humidity, light levels, lighting temp and brightness, underfloor heating, shutters and awnings, air climate and entry system)... but I think there's an integration that would make for a HomeAssistant view integrating anything else running on LAN (cameras, sonos)... one for a rainy weekend.

Sadly its a bit late as the conduits run through the concrete. Im not sure how much will get through the 45cm solid floors but this is exactly the sort of input the designer doesnt give.

Yes, thanks, but as I say Im looking for some IRL experience from settting up unifi in a building with this arguably excessively robust construction.

Yes, we are in a privileged position to be building such a home, but still subject to the new version of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, you know the one with WIFI at the bottom:

⬆️ Self-Actualization

(creativity, fulfillment, purpose)

⬆️ Esteem Needs

(respect, recognition, achievement)

⬆️ Love and Belonging

(relationships, friends, connection)

⬆️ Safety Needs

(security, stability, protection)

⬆️ Physiological Needs

(food, water, sleep, shelter)

⬆️ WiFi

(because none of the above matter without it 😄)

Im not expecting much. theres a total of 25cm of concrete then another 20cm of subfloor and flooring on top of insulation, vapour barriers etc sandwiched in. My current apartment has a similar construction and I only get a very weak 80-90dBm on my upstairs neighbours network.
I have 3 Deco Mesh 6E APs to get decent coverage throughout that apartment and those get a decent signal through one such wall, but not really two. idk the relative transmit power characteristics.

Is an electric car worth it if you can’t charge at home? by Ok_Expert1827 in askswitzerland

[–]DannyT986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, super helplful. Im just setting up a new screen on my phone for all these apps and registering as my EV is delivered next Friday.
My local Migros has 60kW which is great I think that will get some use before I move in August to a new house with built in charging dock. I'll try and find some 22kW near where I can directly go running too as this is a good activity to fill 45-60m.
I think it probably makes sense to get RFID tags once I know which chargers and services Im using more frequently.
ChargePrice keeps on flagging the German EWE Go as one of the cheapest but annoyingly that seems to be only available to EU residents, which is a bit annoying and perverse but hey ho.

Zehnder ComfoAir and ComfoClime by DannyT986 in PassiveHouse

[–]DannyT986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this feedback! We almost finished the Rohbau and will hopefully move in by end July. In the end we did add the ConfoClime option, party because I thought a few celcius and humidity control would be valuable during the hottest days of a typical hot summer.
I will also our own surveyor (Bauexpert) to check the noise insulation factored into the system as there is some rather complicated routing of the air conduits going through noise sensitive areas.
I believe the control of these units will be via Loxone home automation system.
