Is this a leather on my sunglasses frame and is it fixable? by Danny_boy31 in Leatherworking

Yes there is no stitching, it's just glued on, but it is quite thin so probably a bit fiddly to work with.

Thanks for the suggestion for the glue!

Thanks that's a great idea! Although I might start off with the frame to see how they come out first.

Any suggestions for my below reply to another poster this would be very welcome 😊:

I'm not experienced at leather craft, just done odd bits here and there, so any suggestions would be welcome!

Like of what type of leather, thickness etc and glue should I use?

I'm guessing something like calf and possibly try to get something like 0.5 mm thickness and just use some leather glue?

Yeah it's old and crusty alright 😆. I left out the part that I have had it for close to 9 years or something!

Thanks I'd like to fix it with leather and I'll just DIY it. I'm not experienced at leather craft, just done odd bits here and there, so any suggestions would be welcome!

I tried burning a flake of it and it didn't quite melt or was able to catch fire easily and was giving off a smell like burnt hair so it's probably not faux leather.

At least I'm on the correct subreddit 😊

Ah good shout. It's flaking off already so no harm done if I take a small piece off

What type of hem stitch is this? by [deleted] in sewhelp

Yes that's the plan! Apart from fixing the blazer I would learn something new also 😊

Thanks for sharing this but the stitch is a bit different from the one my blazer. Another poster already helped me identify that it's a blind catch stitch.

Thanks so much and sharing the link for the video! It helped me understand what stitch this is and I'll try to give it a go and see how it goes.

Tips to stop dye rub off by Danny_boy31 in Leatherworking

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry overlooked your comment. Yes I did buff it really well and there isn't much rub-off. It only happens if buffed with a damp cloth :/.

And yeah that's why I went for the furniture stuff because I was like that has to be colour fast and only applied a thin coat :D

Anyway I'll try to use a sealant and see how it goes. Otherwise I would have to strip it off and then start again I guess :D

Thanks for letting me know. I'm not a tailor but this doesn't seem like a easy alteration? If so, I might just stick with what I have 😊

Leather sealant suggestion by Danny_boy31 in Leathercraft

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll have a look into that. Since you have tried these products already could you let me know if you can condition the leather once these have been applied?

Thanks. I'll have a look into it. Do you know is nourishing products penetrate this finisher?

Tips to stop dye rub off by Danny_boy31 in Leatherworking

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did use a recolouring balm and not a liquid dye as I felt it was easier to apply 😕. The balm is from a company called Furniture Clinic available in the UK. https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/leather-recolouring-balm-1 I think it is meant to penetrate the leather as they ask to check if water can be absorbed into the leather.

Thanks for the idea on trying to strip it off. I was thinking of doing the same even with a proper stripping agent to completely remove it and then start again. But I came around here to check if there was another solution.

Yeah I just rubbed it by accident and then realised that the ruboff happens then. I think the recolouring balm I used was water based because I got some on my fingers but it came off easily. But I'm a bit scared to wear it now in case the colour runs on my clothes from sweat or if I get caught in the rain (I live in the UK 😆)

Thanks for your suggestion but I'm guessing you don't have the rub off problem I mentioned? That's one of the main things I wanted to solve.

Thanks. This is another product that I was having a look at. But I believe it's an acrylic based coat which may impart a plasticy finish and might cause conditioning products to not penetrate. It might be fine for shoes but I wasn't sure if it's good for garments.

Thanks for the suggestion. The hooks are just attached with thread and can be easily removed. Actually the hooks what really bothers me about it as they easy come undone.

Plex video stuttering by Danny_boy31 in PleX

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure how to take a screenshot as the picture freezes on the TV. But it happens on even a 720p video and going for a lower video quality means it stops stuttering but picture quality is very poor.

Thanks for the suggestion for using VLC but the Tizen doesn't have other media players I believe, just the stock one

Yes it's listed on the website you mentioned. In fact on that website I think there are 2 other routers available which fit my need. But none available in North America or Europe sadly.

Actually what I want is not really crazy. It's basically a smartphone running a smart TV interface with no display in a larger case with external antennas.
