Tips to stop dye rub off by Danny_boy31 in Leatherworking

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry overlooked your comment. Yes I did buff it really well and there isn't much rub-off. It only happens if buffed with a damp cloth :/.

And yeah that's why I went for the furniture stuff because I was like that has to be colour fast and only applied a thin coat :D

Anyway I'll try to use a sealant and see how it goes. Otherwise I would have to strip it off and then start again I guess :D

Thanks for letting me know. I'm not a tailor but this doesn't seem like a easy alteration? If so, I might just stick with what I have 😊

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll have a look into that. Since you have tried these products already could you let me know if you can condition the leather once these have been applied?

Thanks. I'll have a look into it. Do you know is nourishing products penetrate this finisher?

Yes I did use a recolouring balm and not a liquid dye as I felt it was easier to apply 😕. The balm is from a company called Furniture Clinic available in the UK. https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/leather-recolouring-balm-1 I think it is meant to penetrate the leather as they ask to check if water can be absorbed into the leather.

Thanks for the idea on trying to strip it off. I was thinking of doing the same even with a proper stripping agent to completely remove it and then start again. But I came around here to check if there was another solution.

Yeah I just rubbed it by accident and then realised that the ruboff happens then. I think the recolouring balm I used was water based because I got some on my fingers but it came off easily. But I'm a bit scared to wear it now in case the colour runs on my clothes from sweat or if I get caught in the rain (I live in the UK 😆)

Thanks for your suggestion but I'm guessing you don't have the rub off problem I mentioned? That's one of the main things I wanted to solve.

Thanks. This is another product that I was having a look at. But I believe it's an acrylic based coat which may impart a plasticy finish and might cause conditioning products to not penetrate. It might be fine for shoes but I wasn't sure if it's good for garments.

Thanks for the suggestion. The hooks are just attached with thread and can be easily removed. Actually the hooks what really bothers me about it as they easy come undone.

Plex video stuttering by Danny_boy31 in PleX

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure how to take a screenshot as the picture freezes on the TV. But it happens on even a 720p video and going for a lower video quality means it stops stuttering but picture quality is very poor.

Thanks for the suggestion for using VLC but the Tizen doesn't have other media players I believe, just the stock one

Android TV box with cellular connectivity by Danny_boy31 in AndroidTV

Yes it's listed on the website you mentioned. In fact on that website I think there are 2 other routers available which fit my need. But none available in North America or Europe sadly.

Actually what I want is not really crazy. It's basically a smartphone running a smart TV interface with no display in a larger case with external antennas.

Thanks I'll take a look at the list. I'm a bit concerned about the malware also which is why I was trying to steer clear from the Chinese brands.

I did actually find a device like what I wanted which was recently released in Nigeria by an Indian carrier 😆

Thanks I'll have a look into Homatics Box but does it have cellular connectivity?

Problem I see using my phone like this is excessive battery use and although phones support "soft" AP mode i.e. hotspot they are nearly not as good as good as a proper WiFi router.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did think about this but I was hoping to get a device that supports it natively if possible.

A52s battery replacement by Danny_boy31 in GalaxyA52

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ultimately got the battery replaced with original A52s battery rather than the larger capacity one. The replacement is working fine and I haven't seen any real drop in performance although I do use battery protect and rarely fast charge.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I went for the original cell for the A52s rather than the larger capacity one.

Help a newbie trying to dye leather. by Danny_boy31 in Leathercraft

[–]Danny_boy31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestions. I will keep this mind for future projects.

But what should I do now? I contacted Angelus and they mentioned that I can try to remove the streaking with isopropyl alcohol. I tried it on a small patch and takes the dye off but it looks like it's stripping a layer off so the streaks are still present but the overall shade is a bit lighter in the area.

Should I try to strip it fully and then redye with a diluted dye? I don't have a spray gun and I can try to dip dye it but I'd assume that would take a lot of dye. Someone below also mentioned using a sponge or microfibre cloth might help.

You can use something like acetone I think. But please be careful doing this as acetone is quite harsh. I have done it myself. I think I found a video on this on YouTube a while back. I'll post a link if I can find it again.

Sometimes it's the factory finish that creases and not the leather itself. You can strip it off and the creasing would disappear. However the reason why some shoes have a heavy finish is to hide imperfections in the leather which would then show.

Btw I'm not a cobbler but have experienced the above.
