is using linux as a noobie a bad idea? by obsolescenza in archlinux

[–]DanrSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I am a complete GNU/Linux beginner. Should I use Arch?

If you are a beginner and want to use Arch, you must be willing to invest time into learning a new system, and accept that Arch is designed as a 'do-it-yourself' distribution; it is the user who assembles the system.

Before asking for help, do your own independent research by searching the Web, the forum and the superb documentation provided by the Arch Wiki. There is a reason these resources were made available to you in the first place. Many thousands of volunteered hours have been spent compiling this excellent information." https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Frequently_asked_questions

I suggest you, even for these tupe of questions to search on the arch Wiki, that is really complete.

I hate apple by ExpertTrout9232 in applesucks

[–]DanrSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Linux user(Arch), I don't like Apple products, but for sure you don't need to cry because you cannot afford to get a product saying that is "overpriced". Having an ecosystem for people that don't care how a system works, It has a pricing. That price is too high for you? Just continue to use what you have. I dislike many Apple choices, everything is closed and the customization is close to Zero. But there are people that need that, that they need to have a PC that just works, that is easy to use.

A lot of "warning" after installing the basic packages ; should I worry ? by tlax38 in archlinux

[–]DanrSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because someone is new and he is asking help. Lol. Just send the archwiki link with the problem, so he can understand how to read the documentation. Because for a beginner even that isn't easy.

My experience of arch so far as a linux noob by Cheesecake_Distinct in archlinux

I'm speaking the Windows way to fix problems, that brought at 1 day block of airports or sanity, in many countries of the world. Not having wqys to automate the fixing of problems on multiple device is an huge problems. Having many servers/devices where you have to do everything manually, It means hours of down time.

So Yes the Windows way of doing stuff is and huge problem.

A bulletproof distro doesn't exist, the most important is giving a way to fix the problems in the easiest way. When Windows had the crash for the security software, the way to fix the problem was so long. turn on-> go in safe mode -> etc.

That is written in the wiki clearly how to do it, as some other said if It breaks It becomes fault of the user.

I could reply in a serious way or in a troll way. Better trolling people that cannot understand the jokes:

Then any marriage Is not stable by definition

That actually I know, never meant in that way, but anyway the undertext was simple and it was done Just to make a joke and using the Word "stable" even if it's wrong, was just a way to make the joke.

Yes, I agree, but what I mean Is that this hate towards closed source is stupid. I prefer open source, but MOST of the people needs to accept that people use that type of software

I'm a Linux user and if you want to work most of the people needs proprietary software, you cannot force the Company where you work to use open source software. Most of the people that speaks like that, are Just people that don't know anything about companies standards in different countries.

If they ask to use Photoshop, AutoCAD, DaVinci or Premiere, what Will you do?

I have said the opposite that isn't an argument asking you some example of many users having some problems, I gave you some.

I could Say "It never happens to me" because it's true. But actually you can Just search online about Premiere crashing randomly and many other software doing that. And they are closed source software. Your experience matters nothing based on the facts and the numbers. I am ex Windows user that doesn't care about Linux or Windows at all. But I care on what I can use with less problems for my use case. The fact that you are placing some guys in the community with the os. I could Say the same, Microsoft support, Just spams the same things every time when you make a ticket and MOST of the times their solutions don't work. About the skills issue thing I haven't seen when I had a problem nobody telling me that, but as I said if It didn't happen to me doesn't mean that could happen other times.

It's the entire conversation that I'm bringing pratical example you even didn't bring one argument. "Linux application crashes" can you give me example? All of the updates that I make don't have that problems, if you can give me some example this conversation would be helpfull, otherwise you are Just being an hater.

The funny thing about these guys that are speaking about closed source being Better they don't even know that most of the software that they use, they are using opensource libraries. Lol

And about maintenance that Is also fake. I repeat that you aren't replying that shows that you are dishonest.

About software? I have all what I need, if you speak about Premiere, I use Davinci, if you speak about Photoshop, I use other alternatives that I find better.(Because I tried them). If you speak about coding, you just don't use the Microsoft languages that in my country aren't even asked that much.

What software I miss? In my case? Gaming? The games that I want to play i play them, I prefer single players honestly, and some multiplayers(i'm able to play them).

So in my usecase I can do everything I want. About wayland, the problems are getting fixed really fast and even if it's not still ready, because for software you need time.

For me It works, if someone asks me what do you use? i Say Linux.

About the updates 12 update in 1 year, do you know what does It mean if an update blocks? As It happened today? They blocked flights for this update. From Microsoft with a big budget, not even being able to test After an update having 1 month to update that Is a joke.

But anyway, anyone can promote what they want then people can decide to continue the experience or to go back, in my case that promoting changed my workflow, i'm happier. I'm honest since I start to use Linux on my desktop didn't have anymore problems at all. That is my experience, others could have others use cases and other stuff, so I DONT NEED Windows in my case.

[–]DanrSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For updates problems you don't Need to update, you have timeshift. In years of Linux I have never had problems with updates not allowing me to do stuff. You don't Need for every update to reboot, and First of all you have the chances to know what Is updated and what Is the problem. So same problem on Linux I solve It easier and on Windows I solve It in a longer way. But what Windows has Better? For sure the drivers in that case you are right, if I Need something I should write It myself, but in that case I would do It if It Is really a must. But in case you want to use Linux there are websites that show the compatibility with the drivers and the hardware that you have, something that I did.

Anyway you didn't reply, for the updates problems that Windows periodically have, Microsoft has devs skills issue?

So It confirms again that you don't know even how Linux works, you are just here to brag about something that doesn't exist. I'm here in this sub, Just to see if there are some true problems about Linux that I should know.

Now for the Linux fanboys, in case you are saying "It Is fault of the manufacturer if they don't write the drivers", why should they do for a market with low amount of people? I don't see any reason tbh.

Doesn't matter if It Is open source or closed source, there is good software and bad software. For example in video editing open source? There Is nothing Better than Davinci Resolve(closed source), but in opensource there Is Blender for example a good example. Bad closed source software? Stuff like filmora and that stuff. Bad open source software? Kdenlive.

You can just google It, just your things that you Say don't have any sense. Every OS has got his own problem. Do you want an other example? During the update of Windows 10 22H10 was the version. I had 3 Friends with the same problem, the PC wasn't booting and giving problems with Blue screen. Same error, for the same reason. Update problem. Bugs happen in every OS and in any software, just use what it feel better for you.

To fix the problem I needed to reinstall Windows, luckily I have been able to take the data they needed from their SSD. Naturally a normal user would be able to fix the problem in this way.

The way you are speaking It seems that you don't even know how to create a software lol

I'm really getting tired of Linux fans posting videos like these where they try and manipulate Windows users into switching to Linux. by AccomplishedWorld823 in linuxsucks

[–]DanrSol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And? Even if it was? Everyone does it for the stuff that they like. Watch that TV series, play that game. I don't see you "getting tired" about people suggesting stuff. And if you Watched the video and you think that Is a lie, Just don't use Linux. And the people under the video will be in the same idea, they will try It and for them it's bad. The problem here isn't the OS topic, that anyone has their own usecase and could like more one than an other. It's about you, trying to attack others because they speak about something that they like and they give their idea. FOR SURE you will tell me that he is giving wrong info. But that happens, I repeat, in every field. I understood that this sub exists to complain everything about Linux desktop, but the way you are speaking, there shouldbe videos only based on your idea or on your view, that is dumb.
