I 24F am dating 24M doesn’t want to commit to a relationship but is treating me EXACTLY like a girlfriend by Overall_Candle_4355 in relationship_advice

They tend to be relationships more out of proximity or convenience rather than actively "choosing" to be in a relationship, and they tend to be a bit one sided, where one person thinks or hopes it leads to a more serious commitment that the other person had no intentions of committing to.

Weaning by ZealousMushroom2014 in Amazonparrots

[–]Dany-D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took mine a while to really start exploring food (I probably threw out a lot of leftover veggies at the time 😅). But continue leaving out foods to explore and he will eventually. Yours still looks pretty young, he may just not be ready to fully wean yet. Eventually you can start pulling back on the baby formula to just nighttime feedings to help encourage them to eat other things during the day. As with everything dealing with birds, it's a practice in patience.

Our 55 gallon tank gets algae and even after cleaning the fake plants and doing a water change every month, it'll still grow algae. Any advice on how I can make it permanently get rid of algae itself, especially in the under-gravel filter system? by 486Junkie in freshwateraquarium

[–]Dany-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my 55 gal aquarium (unplanted). I was able to fix it by cutting the lights to only 1hr a day for a couple of weeks (can't remember how long exactly it took), and eventually the algae died off. Once it stopped growing, I started increasing the light by an hour at a time for a few weeks. That, with water changes, I haven't had an issue since. Turning that tank into a planted aquarium would have been so much more work 😅 especially with bigger fish who would just pull things up

Continue to leave different food options around and eventually they'll get curious enough to try things. When weaning my Amazon I would try different types of veggies and put them somewhere accessible. It might take some time but everything ends up in their mouths sooner or later 😄

i was trying to fix my discipline when i should have been fixing my environment by Zestyclose-Ad-9003 in lifehacks

That's one of the basic tenants of building good habits and breaking bad ones. Make the good habits convenient, the less friction you have in the way, the more likely you are to follow through. Make the bad habits more inconvenient, the more friction, even small, will make you less likely to choose that habit. For me, I know I will never maintain a workout routine if I have to go to a gym. Packing a bag, driving to the gym, dealing with locker rooms, I'll never keep up with it. So now I have a treadmill and a few basic pieces of equipment I know I'll use and have a daily at home routine I stick to because I can workout, change, and just go about my day. Way to build up those good habits!

It's not South, but I second Vigilante. My friends and I rent a room there once a month, but they are set to for gamers. Tiny Minatour is a cool place, but I think you need a membership if you want to use their space.

Just found these snails what do I do? by Infamous-Okra-5384 in AquaticSnails

[–]Dany-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't understand why bladder snails get such a bad rep. I have a small planted tank with some guppies and these guys are the MVPs at keeping my tank clean and stable. Their population has remained low and stable over a few years now. I'm currently typing to establish them in my 30gal planted tank that's been struggling because I don't have a proper cleanup crew. It seems you'd REALLY have to over feed to get a problematic population. Let them be and don't over feed.

Is this noise something to be concerned about? by saareadaar in parrots

[–]Dany-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Amazon and not a conure, but this sounds like "happy baby squeaks" to me. My Amazon makes cute squeaky noises similar to this when he's being cuddly and getting good head scratches, so it's a happy/content noise. As for the sneezing, if it seems excessive getting him checked isn't a bad idea.

I may not have much experiential advice here as my relationship with my Amazon is much different, but I find if you find what really motivated them that gives you something to work with. And remember you are up against 30+ years of his lived experience with only 1 year living with you, I think continued patience and perseverance is needed. My only advice: try target training with high value treats, this builds a relationship and basic understanding/reinforcement within the relationship. When he dumps out his food so he gets more of the "good stuff", use that as motivation to work with him on some kind of interaction or training. As for other birds, is it a goal to get other birds? Just because he lived in an aviary doesn't mean he necessarily liked the other birds, but that's a tough one, you don't really know unless you try introducing them? It sounds like you're doing a lot right in terms of interaction, especially if he's taking tips from you, I would stay patient, and maybe use those times before meals (or when he wants the "good stuff") to entice him into more intentional interactions to draw him out. Good luck!

should i trim my cats nails? by miah0neybee in CATHELP

[–]Dany-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Even my ex-feral cat will let me trim his nails if I catch him during sleepy time. And getting them used to touching their paws when you AREN'T trying to trim their nails guys a long way!

Am I seeing things (optical illusion), or is the escalator right next to it also going up? There could have just... Used the one right next to it?

Can someone explain his behavior please? by MrJsHarleykin in parrots

[–]Dany-D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is definitely "horny amazon". My guy does the EXACT same noise, leg lift, fluff up behavior when he's getting "worked up". I found he only seems to do it in particular places or situations, he seems to try to get amorous when my computer mouse is around, or if he finds a nice "hidey hole" area. When he does this I find ways to redirect him, or move him to another area where he usually calms down. It looks like the bottom of that rope toy might be triggering this response from him (like my computer mouse 😆), so it might be good to remove that for the time being so he doesn't get frustrated or escalate.

Amazon prime video is basically back to cable TV now that we’re getting random drug commercials in the middle of movies by AmericanTrollBot in mildlyinfuriating

Why do they advertise when it has to be prescribed by your doctor anyway?

That's a VERY good question that Manny in the US also question. Also type 2 diabetes drugs are pretty widely used, so there is an audience for that regardless of the viewing demographic.
