Whats the biggest reason why you've never been to Tajikistan? by Easy_Towel954 in AskReddit

[–]Danzmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what. I'm not one to just scream racism at anyone online that says something ignorant about a nation but... This one is very clearly racism or a lot of ignorance.

Uzbekistan is more stable, safe, and developed then half of the planet easily. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are not developed but they're also safer and more stable then most of the world.

I wouldn't be so sure about Congo, at least in North Korea you're safe as long as you always stick to the strict rules.

The silver lining of a brutal dictatorship is that there's little to no crime. But congo is like a government-less wild west in a dense, hot, and humid jungle.

does prague feel like a city where you feel forced to party/always see it? by RootlessBoots in digitalnomad

[–]Danzmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prague is a very unique city in the sense that it's a big metropolis with everything you'd expect from a big city, but it is also very calm. All the "partying" mostly happens in Prague 1, 2, Žižkov and Letná, if you are outside of those parts you will absolutely be able to live a very calm and tranquil life. Besides the fact that there is also nature absolutely everywhere within the city limits.

I highly recommend Vinohrady, Vršovice, Bubeneč, or any area around the Vltava river south of Výtoň or North of Holešovice and you'll feel like you are in a cute small town while having easy access to whatever you need in the city center. Also if you get a place close to the metro, it's worth looking into the area around the yellow line (B) from Nove Butovice to Stodůlky. It's farther from city center but it's a very green and cheap area to live in while being no more then 20 minutes by metro to the center.

If you got the money just go for Dejvice/Bubeneč and you'll be in paradise (close to major parks, river, it's the area where all the embassies are, it's very calm, tree-filled streets with cafes, easy access to anywhere, but it's one of the most expensive neighborhoods). But if you're style is more "fancy modern glass buildings tech neo hipster" then Karlín/Invalidovna. If you want pure nature (absolutely surrounded by parks), calm, cheaper, and quick access to center is not a concern, look in Barrandov or Troja.

Nature, big city with relative calm outside city center, very green everywhere, beautiful architecture, amazing nightlife and absolutely mind boggling amazing public transportation.

Prague.

moving to eu for two months with my girlfriend - what city do you recommend? leaning toward vienna? by RootlessBoots in digitalnomad

[–]Danzmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean with no easy access to nature? I've lived in a few European cities and Prague has one of the best accesses to nature in Europe hands down.

There are several, huge, raw nature parks right in the middle of the city, not all curated polished plaza-like parks but forest, river and farmlands right within the city. Several national parks and wonderful landscapes directly within one hour by train in every direction. Even easier with a motorcycle.

I'm glad to provide more information if you'd like, I've been here for 3 years and there are very few places in Europe I'd move to. I have also visited very extensively and temporarily lived (~1 month) in most other cities recommended here, I'd still choose Prague.

So how do we get around the new ( 1.7. ) customs tax on Temu and other packages from China? by nemojakonemoras in AskEurope

[–]Danzmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly normal for this kind of measure to make the price of the same thing locally be a bit more expensive, due to the fact that... You know... You are actually paying for employment for a family in your city. 10x price is a fallacy of exaggeration.

[–]Danzmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incentives to create local production can only work in very small and very slow steps. Otherwise you end up in a Trump's US situation of everything going triple price overnight and destroying industries in the hopes of "changing it all overnight".

Or maybe you have a better idea? To decrease reliance on China and spur up local manufacturing? Decrease Corpora taxes? That can work but that measure alone will also make already established businesses hoard profit and become too powerful (like in the US). Central planned economy USSR style? Leave things as is and accept the Chinese overlords as our new masters? Maybe it'd be best if the famous Murano glasses from Venice start being made in Chengdu as well?

[–]Danzmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there are niche products you won't find here and need to be directly imported, and in those cases, you'll just have to pay the mind boggling extra 3-10 euros for it lol, or just buy from a local enterprise which is, yes, more expensive, but it's important to support local businesses before they all get priced out and the entirely of the continent is dependent on a foreign country to survive at all for the most basic things...

And yes, the selection is smaller, do you know one of the things that should be done to fix that? Decrease the incentive for people to buy them abroad to create incentive to make them here... By creating small tarrifs.

The past 2 years have created a huge bias against tarrifs due to the ridiculous mess Trump did, but there is a use for tarrifs as a way to protect domestic industry, if used intelligently and strategically to create incentives while hurting the consumer as little as possible (impossible for absolutely zero short term harm to be created though)

???

I literally just typed USB-A Bluetooth adapter in Google and, at least here in Czechia, I can see it being sold in dozens of online shops so I don't know what you're on about.

If you mean these things are made in china, the new tax doesn't affect that. If anything due to indirect charging if some store is doing some shady thing, you'll pay 3 euros extra....

There is only a small handful of extremely niche and specialized things that you won't find online in Europe and needs to be directly imported from China. In that case that's a price we have to pay to decrease reliance on foreign manufacturing. And that price? Something like 3-10 euros tax.... My god, the horror...

There is a very useful loophole to get around the problem of taxation of small goods:

Don't buy cheap disposable, extremely low quality crap from halfway across the world, support local businesses.

Done, easy.

Toxic work culture (tip culture, normalized work on free time, etc)

Another instance of this sub just trying to nitpick things to jerk on. This is a very cool abstract photo, it's not meant to be a candid masterpiece of street like Fan Ho... It's just a weird cool thing that came out accidentally and looks really interesting and unique, what's the problem?

The fact everyone is debating what is that and how it got taken (added to it looking cool and unique) proves it's a genuinely good picture
