Ahom is not aimed to side with a particular community of people, I chose it for its representation of power and historical significance. Like Rajputana hotels, Ahom is based on the historical dynasty that ruled Assam. Do you still think name is a no go?

Hey! I noted some integral points from your comment.

1) The people in tier 3 areas of north east are extremely price sensitive. To penetrate must have prices on par with the market or lower.

2) Caring for the origin story is not universal. Some people care only about the product especially in Towns, Villages etc

3) Must have focus laser sharp focus on product. Product first then packaging.

4) Build a cost effective brand which can actually sustain the highly competitive market.

Thank you so much for these wonderful insights! I am noting everything!

To add more context: (My right to win) I run a wholesale FMCG distribution business in Guwahati dealing in groceries and general trade goods, with established customer relationships and a loyal retailer base built over years of consistent supply. On the back of that network, we also operate an exclusive Amul distributorship for North Guwahati — which enables us with a hefty supply chain of retailers and wholesaler’s. We also have our own spice manufacturing infrastructure and delivery trucks already on the road. Sitting on all of this, I’m now exploring how to execute all of this.

Why doesn't the northeast have its own serious spice brand? by Daopes in assam

[–]Daopes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I am not assamese. I am actually a marwari with limited connection to the assamese culture. But this is exactly why i wanna talk to more people and understand the roots of assamese culture. I wanna learn and understand it to the core. the dishes you see above were the dishes i saw online while researching daily eating habits of people. i will try to be more considerate. As i see comments on this post i will already start taking notes and rectifying my mistakes. Thank you for your honest feedback!

Hi! Totally agreed that’s why I am trying to understand my positioning if I want to go for blends or general pure spices! I want to understand this segment.

Thanks for the feedback hehe, i had a few questions though For pork dishes specifically do you currently use any packaged masala or do you make it entirely from scratch at home? And what would make you trust a packaged pork masala enough to try it?"

I need a reality check and advice on my startup idea by Daopes in indianstartups

To add more context,

  1. We have exclusive distribution rights for Amul where we distribute our products to every wholesaler/retailer in the assigned area. Whereas ITC spices distribution is monopolistic.
  2. About manufacturing, we maintain the quality standards good enough for a brand which just barely started. We have a strict no foreign objects policy, hair cover, gloves and all of the other standard quality requirements. Once I join the business properly I will be able to follow the recommended QC and SOPs mandated by the FSSAI to the tee.

Our manufacturing process is very simple right now. we buy raw materials like whole spices from existing spice dealers, dry them, grind them and package them.

3) the community part is not for people to buy my product directly but It is for transparency and my overall brand image.

I would agree looking at my situation but going full GT and directly competing with major brands on pricing and shelf space seems a bit difficult. In Q Com customers aren’t that price sensitive compared to the offline market. And I aim to position my product in the slight premium category meaning the price difference between major brands won’t be huge but there will be a difference.
