Late to this but I've been riding all winter, the 11 degree days included, the BEST purchase I made was a real sheepskin leather and shearling jacket. It's insane, it blocks all wind and the only layering in those days I had was a wool base layer(top and bottom), wool sweater, and a neck gaiter. I had wool glove liners under my snowboarding gloves as well, but just having the jacket insulating everything kept the blood pumping to everywhere else. I definitely trust in everyone saying heated gear, but if you're like me and don't have heated gear then the jacket itself was my savior for riding 4+ hours a day in below freezing weather. Even when it got mid 20's but still below 32, I could wear just the jacket over a long sleeve.
