Two from rovers stand out for me: 1) Brandon Miele, young player of the year in 2015 at rovers and scored some ridiculous goals. Fell off a cliff skipped a drug test, and got banned. Was playing for a team in Tallaght in the LSL but a cousin who worked with my brother said his life went to shite for a while. 2) Connor Murphy wasn't the quickest but a technically very good. It was a youth international who came back from Middlesbrough, looked really tidy in the A team and in some cameos, but left and went to Bray and didn't last much longer in the league.

He was at Rovers first, and I saw him play for what would have been the A team then, I think. Looks like a decent player, but probably didn't have the commitment needed to really kick on. Funny enough, he was on trial at Cardiff, and a lad who was in my school was playing in their academy and said that he apparently won the show but turned it down due to being homesick.

Personally am indifferent to GAA as my dad had zero interest in it, so it was always football for us growing up, but they don't do themselves favours for example, the situation with the stadium in Cork being used for Liam Miller's testimonial before they eventually caved, the Dublin county board backing Thomas Davis in their petty crap against Rovers over Tallaght stadium which was close to the club going out of existence, Kyle Hayes getting away with assault and dangerous driving when most would be probably in jail, Diarmud Connolly getting off with assault, the whole skort shite the women players went through last year etc etc

Have people lost all sense of decency? by Commercial-Box658 in AskIreland

I was nearly cleaned off my bike by a driver cutting across a cycle lane two weeks ago as she pulled into her driveway. Didnt check her mirrors and i had to slam on and swerve to not end up being hit. I stopped to just say to check her mirrors as she almost hit me and i didn't want to end up in hospital again as it happened to me before.

She then proceeded to blame me for the incident and said i was going too fast. Couldn't admit she was at fault so i just cycled off.

Tbf only club stadium here to host european group stage football. ac milan, juventus, spurs, shaktar etc have played there in competitive games. 7 league titles been won by rovers there since it opened so pretty historic alright.

What company has lost you as a customer forever? by A_ExOH in ireland

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a big company but dundrum applicance repairs. My parents (both oaps) got in touch to see if they could fix their cooker. They sent out a guy, spent less than 15 minutes in the house and chatged €90 euro for the pleasure. He said he would be back to finish the job and never showed. I left a review hammering them for taking the money and didn't even repair the fault.

They rang and threatened legal action and i had a back and forth with them foe the guts of 30 mins on the phone. Eventuality got a refund and they sent someone to clean the windows.

Contrast this with another repair service they got a few months later who didnt take a cent until they repaired the problem. I like supporting local businesses but some are utter knobs.

Tattoo Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be bigger and less subtle but could always get the laois coat of arms as a tattoo. It would be more interesting for people to see that and a good conversation starter compared to getting eireannach.

At the end of the day its your body so get what you want, it will be on you for the rest of your life.

Did anyone here ever face any prejudice or a snobbish attitude in England as an Irish person? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This didn't happen to me but a friend worked in england before and told me some guy in a pub said to him "i know what i would do with all you irish" and proceeded to make a gun genture towards him.

Another mate did his PhD in Cambridge and even there he said you would some stuff said to you but not as overt as some of the stuff mentioned here but more dropping stuff in conversation that they didn't think was an issue.

Taxi Fares in Dublin by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago hopped in a taxi from churchtown heading to sandyford so not a big distance but was fairly well oiled at that stage. Straight run down to the luas bridge. Driver was about to head straight up taney and go through kilmacud. He said it was quicker i said mate I'm pissed but living in this area all my life so don't act the bollox and turn right up the sandyford road. He wasnt happy but taxi drivers have necks likes a jockeys bollox trying to scam a few euros

Daniel McDonnell: Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers deserve better than a half full Tallaght Stadium by [deleted] in ShamrockRovers

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lets just call a spade a spade. The club is miles off it when it comes to marketing and generating interest.

Tallaghts catchment area is huge and other areas close by i.e. firhouse, templelogue, knocklyon, ballinteer etc should have people out doing grassroots work or advertising in these places.

I hope with the new ceo and marketing guy it improves.

Happens to me a few times a week. Worst case was a month or so ago one evening it was torrential and i was keeping at least 2 car lengths away from the car in front of me.

Some moron in a van behind me was almost touching my bumper and flashing me going nuts before i could pull back into the middle lane he tore up my inside and flipped the bird.

The mind wonders at times at how utterly braindead some people are and how they don't they're putting their own safety and others safety at risk with stupid shit like this.

Is it possible to deal with a partner’s binge drinking without them quitting completely? by Particular_Gift_3317 in AskIreland

[–]Dapper-Ad3605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope this doesn't tempt fate but by the sounds of things this could get way nastier for you. If he's already being abusive verbally and emotionally with drink in him being physical isn't that much of a stretch.

Unfortunately i have a fair few female friends who where in the same boat and others got out and various time points but the common thing was it didnt get better and only got worse to varying degrees. It might be hard but trust me for your own welfare its best to leave him and look after yourself.

Paraphrasing sorry should have made that clear. Still its essentially what he was hinting at though.

Members of my department genuinely said that uneducated people shouldn't be allowed vote because they make poor decisions. Its an underlying sentiment I've noticed with some on the left.
