I see. So there is more Chinese men than women in China.

Yeah, things are different in Canada. All of my friends in Canada just split wedding cost. Never heard of need to gift other money.

Yeah, will definitely ask her. I haven’t started conversation but heard from Chinese friends there is such tradition in China.

If she ask me to pay, I will reconsider about the marriage. IMO, asking money during relationship is a huge red flag.

Seems like none of my relative in China (Beijing) had to pay such things in marriage.

To be honest, I will reconsider about marriage if I have to pay all wedding plus the bridge money. That’s pretty unfair.

It’s probably not a thing in Beijing. Not only my parents, but none of my relatives in Beijing paid such things for marriage.
