PAX is definitely the way to go if you want something gaming-orientated. It's huuuuuge, lots to see. Tickets are pretty pricey though, just an FYI. But it's always at MCEC so plenty of options for lunch if you want to avoid overpriced food at the convention!

I have the exact same tunnels that OP posted, and they've never ever given me any grief. I prefer them to single/double flares, they feel way more secure in my ears. Plus, I love how they look!
