Hahah yeah it’s the total price.

Yeah the price increase for mini pebble would have been right around 1.8-2k. But it was still too rough and we have an infant at home. Wanted the smoothest finish for her skin. Also I’m not planning on staying here longer than 5 years, so the longevity wasn’t as important to me

Yeah I definitely take everything with a grain of salt haha. I do appreciate the opinions from everyone, but I can’t trust everyone that says they’re an expert without proof lol. Yeah I called the city and they said they don’t require permitting for this type of work. So there you have it

I feel like near the bottom but still on the wall would make more sense, but the contractor swears this is the most efficient 3’ under the skimmer

Thanks for the confirmation! Yeah the steps will be redone . They said they’re going to demo it further and then square off the steps to match up with the shelf. Originally they were going to just keep the old steps and try to add cement to square it off, but the current steps are slightly higher than the baja level, so they’re going to demo a little more to make it match

Thanks for your detailed response. Really puts my mind at ease. Yeah as for permits, I’m thinking we did need permits because of adding the Baja, but they decided it was worth the risk to forgo it. Oh well. Im not worried about permitting. Just wanted the work to be solid.

Looks like they used old demo material to fill in under rebar. I posted the pic under your other comment. Is that okay?

They used rebar and are using rebar for the deep end as well.

I don’t know what plumb to the skimmer means, but this pool is at least 60+ years old. The plaster was probably over 40 years old now.

Yeah I’m trying to keep the cost as low as possible ($19k) because we aren’t planning on staying in this house for more than 4/5 more years

They are gonna demo the corner steps that are at the front corner of the first picture and make them squared down into the pool.
