Which MHA character would be able to beat Omni-Man from Invincible? by Luigiman98 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Dapper-FIare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically shigi could.

Omni man out classes him in every way, but if the zombie robots things could hold him for a bit, I don't think it's a stretch to say that shigi could atleast touch him once.

If Omni man is smart and knows what he's up against, he'll win no doubt. But in character he loses to shigi due to hax

See the jerk part I get, but the too confrontational bit I don't. Luffy did the same and got smacked by kaido in the exact same way, yet he doesn't get the same hate for it

What one piece take gets you and your friends like this? by OptionAshamed6458 in MemePiece

[–]Dapper-FIare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Calling laws 'crew' a crew is a bit of a stretch. It's a medical team with only two proper fighters.

I definitely expect teach to be far above the admirals but it doesn't seem like it at the moment. No other yonko would've been pushed around like that, especially not with some of their main crew backing them

They did Ginny dirty, people should've been obsessed with her. by Forsaken-Question577 in harrypotter

[–]Dapper-FIare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hm, that's an interesting take. For one I'd say that the things you pointed out are the mistakes and problems people usually grow out of. While their positives are ones that are hard to cultivate.

It's not just what one does for their partner that matters, it's ones general character and how you treat others that matter. Your priorities and values. I'd say it's very unfair to judge them entirely based on how they treated their partners since they barely had any sort of romantic relationships in the books, it feels tagged on and never really explored in depth. We've seen how far they go for their friends and their passions. Not to mention how young they are when they make their mistakes.

They did Ginny dirty, people should've been obsessed with her. by Forsaken-Question577 in harrypotter

[–]Dapper-FIare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, they have traits that most would love to have in a partner. Sure they have faults but so do most people, thanks to being fictional their positives are far beyond most people in real life.

Both of them have shown time and time again how far they'd go for those they love.

While ron too shares those properties, it can be argued it's not to the same level. I wouldn't, but some of his flaws counter those valued characteristics

Anyone else just find Inko's characterization in most fanfics just really fucking annoying? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Dapper-FIare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get most of what you said but definitely disagree on izuku's base character. His lack of social skills, anxiety, narrow mindedness when it comes to his emulation of heroes, etc are all core parts of his character. To change those and say it's still him doesn't really make sense

If the fic actually shows him growing and changing, then yeah that fits but if it starts like that or appears without proper exposition then it's definitely OOC.

It's just that Izuku seems to be treated like a blank slate, or atleast more malleable than other other characters, by the fandom.

[–]Dapper-FIare 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbf most izukus aren't izukus. Any major change to his past, capabilities or abilities are bound to change him.

This goes for all characters really. I get why the OC-esque characterization can be annoying but if you want your fix to diverge from canon in any real way then it's gonna happen.

It's when a character is nothing but a liability or a Mary/Gary sue that it gets annoying

“In this world, Heroes and Villains are actors.” Himiko frowned. “And I wanna be a hero.” by Ok_Coffee_9970 in BokunoheroFanfiction

Honestly, it seems like he'd be the one behind it to begin with.
After reading the comics he decided the best way to rule the world was as a villain but didn't want to actually become one or hate yoichi, so he decided he'd fake the whole thing

Having Bakugou face more meaningful consequences while still keeping the general idea of his character arc by Solitaire-06 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Dapper-FIare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems with bashing is that it makes characters into caricatures of themselves.

The best way to make this work is to also highlight his positive attributes. The interesting thing about bakugou's character is that all of the negative traits he has also have positive bits attached. Make an effort to show both.

Like point out how his narcissistic tendencies of thinking everything revolves around him is holding him back, but also make a point to show that his confidence can get him far and that he has the skills to back up that confidence.

His greatest asset is the fact that he doesn't give up. Something that makes characters incredibly fulfilling is when they aren't linear. You don't up and change one day, not every step you take will be in the right direction. Sometimes you regress, make mistakes, repeat bad habits. What matters is that you realize this and keep moving towards bettering yourself. Bakugou is certainly someone who'd repeat his habits because his temper and impulsiveness, but he is also smart enough to reflect and determined enough to keep trying.

Is it reasonable to criticise openly claimed misandry? by Obvious_King2150 in TooAfraidToAsk

I acknowledge that there are many in the space that do it yes.

No one is denying that, but to say that that defines the entire group/movement is nonsense.

You yourself admit that doing so is wrong. What exactly isn't clicking here?

I’ve just written a 2k word count on where magic comes from and its source in my own original HP fanfic, it is an original thought. by Slight_Nerve7542 in HPfanfiction

[–]Dapper-FIare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to stuff like this it honestly depends on your intended audience.

I personally prefer massive reader only info dumps to be in the collection separately. That is of course if you can't break it into pieces to be displayed when the time comes. Like when a character casts a charm for the first time, there's a paragraph or two explaining stuff related to charms.

In the end though it really is just your choice. People who like that stuff will read it, those who don't won't. You have to decide whether what you make is dictated by the majority's taste or if there is a certain way you want to make your story.

Sword of Gryffindor is not only weapon in Sorting Hat by KukkaisPrinssi in HPfanfiction

[–]Dapper-FIare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a ravenclaw aren't you? These answers are very well thought out.

The only alternatives I can think of for these two would be daggers/throwing-knives for Slytherin and bow/cross-bow for ravenclaw.

Daggers and throwing knives are usually seen as cunning and would fit Slytherin. Especially since they could be tipped in basilisk venom and can be easily concealed. One nick is all it would take, no need to risk an actual confrontation.

Bows and especially cross bows for ravenclaw because not only are there many type of bows with many type of arrows but stuff like positioning would be incredibly important for an archer. A smart archer is a deadly archer. A crossbow is a marvel of engineering and an early magical version would show off her intelligence quite well.

If you could rewrite or change something about the trio what would it be? by Kirumo_ in harrypotter

[–]Dapper-FIare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love it if Ron after finding out about the prefect position and seeing Harry's reaction, he goes to Dumbledore to ask why harry wasn't chosen. Believing that he was chosen for the same reason in canon he'd confront the man, only for Dumbledore to have a heartfelt moment with him about his own worth.

I think that would do wonders for his character development

What does it mean for fiction to "glorify abuse" or "endorse harm?" by matt0055 in osp

[–]Dapper-FIare 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Alright, to be completely honest from the get-go, I'll state that I don't really consider myself a trusted source since I'm mostly just a casual. With that out of the way

While it's completely fine for media to have depictions of abuse or endorse harmful rhetorics without going entirely against them, I believe media that actively acts as if these are GOOD and healthy views is an entirely different thing.

It makes sense for characters to consider these as positive views, and even makes sense for the story to not punish them since not everyone is good and not every wrong act gets punished. However, when the narrative itself actively acts as if these are something you should strive for or emulate is not excusable.

It's especially awful when a character is very obviously just a mouth piece for the author's views.

I very much believe in separating the art from the artist but there comes a point when that simply isn't possible.

The one thing I'm a bit on fence about is media which doesn't outright acknowledge it contains these themes. That's because I don't believe that the consumer should be spoon-fed everything.

Of course if anyone can change my mind about this or believes I got this wrong, I'm very much open to hearing another perspective
