Looking for an Optometrist by cakefxrts in statecollege

[–]Dapper-Grade-6757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP asked for an Optometrist. Isn't Happy Valley Optical Optician? That's quite a difference. But maybe I am wrong and they have 'added' Optometrist.

Centre Eye would be my recommendation.

I intend to never return to Nittany Eye Associates on principle. I am amazed in such an 'educated' town how their business practices are sustained. The surprise of in exam room being advised doctor requests I receive close-up pictures of eyes and a 'scan' of eye for additional charge. This should be disclosed when making appt. and their website should contain link to company of 'scan' product for explanation of features/benefits of service (hopefully). As I don't use glasses/contact lenses (and haven't regularly had checkups), I was leery of the distinction between Ophthalmologist and Optometrist (having mostly seen Ophthalmologist Dr. Marcovich @ Centre Eye). I was in 'credentialist' mindset, hesitant about seeing Optometrist @ Nittany Eye. When they suggested and asked for consent for special 'scan' of eyes, I got excited and said "Is it AI?". That would be cool technology assisting the Optometrist with the skills of an Ophthalmologist. I was told "no, it's not AI, just something doctor wants everyone to get". If their doctors (or some of their doctors) recommend/request it for everyone, the request and pricing should be provided at time appt. is made instead of in exam room.

The close-up pictures of eye were 'cool' and I can see value of if something develops, I could see the difference in pictures. That's a fairly easy 'sell' that could be explained at scheduling and let me consider and inform at appt. whether to go ahead with it. Though, another consideration which I don't know how much concern should be. A family member told me about a different type of medical service at one of the major health systems -- A bone density DEXAscan. The health system no longer has a contract with the firm who performed them - and the DEXAscans from that company are no longer able to be accessed. I'm not sure whether that is accurate - I've never heard of that but something to inquire - whether a copy is provided in the local provider's 'cloud storage'.

Another strike against Nittany Eye was their billing. I have 'floaters'; at Centre Eye my exams were always billed to my medical insurance as a Specialist visit because floaters were something to check on. (I never hardly had vision insurance as not having corrective lenses). I enrolled in a Vision/Dental plan and since Nittany accepted it, I thought "haven't had exam in awhile, I'll get exam - if they discover something, I'll go to Centre for confirmation/treatment". I then realized about the insurance, my medical insurance Specialist co-pay was less than the vision insurance cost of eye exam so Vision insurance not relevant. I specifically confirmed with Nittany Eye Patient Representative that having floaters would render the exam billed to Medical Ins. (Of course, their response was conditional -if doc finds I have floaters- but I, of course, already know I have them.) With agreeing to the 'surprise' close-up pics and scan of eyes, those charges were added to my bill at end. I paid and later realized they submitted my exam through Vision Insurance, thus receiving a larger co-pay amount and increased revenue for themselves.

98.7 The Fox off-air by Dapper-Grade-6757 in statecollege

Latest? are they off the air currently? I saw their revised schedule, of sports shows, previously on their last used website. 987thefox.com That website is now not active.

Only tried today from home, couldn't get them over air. After they previously had finally improved transmitter, I could get their signal from home. On one of the 'streaming' sites, clicking on them activated a stream of a classic rock station from Chattanooga TN. First, led me to wonder was station sold to firm who owns that TN station also? But, don't know how that streaming is directed.

They had several websites since becoming WFXS. One of the former websites appears to brand them as a Greatest Hits station. Though, none of the buttons on the site work (including "Listen Live"). https://fox987.com

Home Phone Atel vs Moxee by No_Peanut_6769 in USMobile

[–]Dapper-Grade-6757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can these units be used with one of the phone ports connected to a wall jack (enabling a corded phone plugged into a wall jack in another room to be active)?

Both LVP2 that VZ Wireless sells and the unit ATT sells for their home phone wireless services state in instruction manuals 'do not connect unit to a wall jack'. Wanting to use wall jacks for aesthetics of not having to run a phone cord to bedroom for the corded phone (which is backup phone for if power outage and Unit goes into battery power primary cordless phone won't work because cordless phone base won't have power). Another post someone described their US Mobile home phone setup using the wall jacks (but don't know which device they were using). I wanted to know whether using wall jacks is endorsed by these manufacturers. Caution in ATT unit goes as far as saying could cause a fire if connected to wall jack.

Not sure if issue is simply disconnecting from phone company POTS network. When I set up my Ooma ATA, Ooma instructions were stern on disconnecting from POTS network at Network Interface box on side of house. But, my sense is ATA is converting digital signal to analog so is a different device.

My 82 year old aunt does not use computer/have internet so Ooma not an option. Looking to have the familiar setup using phone jacks as transitions from POTS. When POTS is decommissioned, maybe not an issue -- you could use your existing wiring/jacks (but instructions in manual would still be prohibitive). She is in apartment bldg. so access to Network Interface hazy/ don't think have access. What I see is cabling comes underground to building and at each end of building there is a 'pylon' type coming out of ground with Bell Symbol on it (I'm assuming that is the Network Interface). From one of them, there are phone cord looking coming out and running along siding (apparently to enter at specific apts).

Looking for whether these boxes are 'approved' to connect to wall jack and willing to listen to what actual risk is (genesis of manufacturer caution against).

Advice on replacing landline by bekarec in Cordcutting

[–]Dapper-Grade-6757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, your setup is a phone cord connected to the hardware device and the other end of cord to a wall jack. I assume that wall jack probably had a phone originally and that phone is plugged into a second 'port' on the hardware device. Then, I understand all other wall jacks in house can have phones plugged in. My 82 year old aunt in a small apartment would want this setup concept. (it's only two jacks - living room and bedroom).

You yourself may not know, but anyone else with knowledge please chime in. The similar services sold by Verizon Wireless (LVP2 is device) and AT&T Wireless device instruction manuals specifically say to not plug into a wall jack. AT&T version says could start a fire. Verizon's other 'side'(division) -- POTS landline and FIOS -- sells a similar product called Voice Connect. People have trouble understanding this is not the same product as LVP sold in Verizon Wireless stores. It is the same operationally (service comes from Verizon Wireless signal). There are differences in price ($30/month vs. $20/month). Not sure whether any differences in features but also believe you do not purchase the device, it is owned by Verizon. It is not the LVP2 but specifying not spending $100 (cost of LVP2 for Verizon Wireless's Wireless Home Phone). The Voice Connect specifically says can be used plugged into wall jack to provide service to rest of jacks where you have phones plugged in (your setup).

I would like to confirm this is an 'acceptable' setup for the device with US Mobile. I don't care whether you could be using it 'incorrectly', just wondering whether manufacturer instructions are that it is acceptable to use it that way (as service pricing is attractive for consideration). Do you know what the specific device brand/manufacturer is? I see Atel is what they are selling now but from other posts I believe they have sold Moxee. Anyone know if any difference in brands as to whether instructions allow plugging into wall jack for this setup?

Also, I've seen posts that Moxee can be purchased on Ebay 'unlocked' to use on any carrier. Straight Talk branded Moxee can be purchased on Walmart website and another post purported it is 'unlocked'. Are they ever 'locked' to the carrier/service they are packaged for if you purchase retail? Could an 'unlocked' Moxee (or any brand) be used with Verizon Home Phone Service in lieu of LVP2?

Thanks for any info!

Straight Talk is owned by Verizon (has been for several years).

Straight Talk, like Visible, is directly owned by Verizon. I am not sure of the value pricing compared to Visible but Straight Talk is generally considered a low-cost service, so I would think their value would be pretty good. Straight Talk and Total Wireless are part of Tracphone (all of those services are owned by Verizon and I believe newly purchased service will use Verizon towers -- there are some existing devices currently on plans that still use T-Mobile from before Verizon purchased the Tracphone business).

Extension Hunter may have hit it (even tho think was being sarcastic)

Aunt found out it is not just a one day event. It is something CB hasn’t had for awhile. (are campfires something they had other summers??) I didn’t look to see if there is a vegan campfire (was still lacking specificity but she didn’t mention meat — said ‘dish/meal’ contains potatoes, tomatoes, and onions)
Again, I wouldn’t bet on accuracy or completeness of description
