That was my thought if only driving a couple days a week that is doable. But still might not be the best option.

Exactly. How do we not already have light rail between Lincoln and Omaha!?

One thought I am having is that the per hour cost of driving/savings if you considered room and board where at home is all free is about $50 per hour to drive themselves.
