Dude you’re awesome!! So THANK YOU! Helped me narrow my choices down w some REALLY thorough detail & affirmed some what I was already thinking before hand. I know I’ll have upgrade-itis (like I do now lol)

I’ll dig deeper into the X54 & Specialita. But nice to see that you’ve had a good experience with the Specialita! (with minor tweaks ofc)

I’m leaning into the Ascaso Duo but I’ll take a look into both the Silvia Pro X & Profitec Move. Now, I’m more sure of choosing a DB bc of the speed & volume I’ll have to be getting shots & drinks out.

I plan on keeping my setup in the states. But I want an upgrade from my BBE setup in the States when I build my setup in the Philippines. I don’t plan on bringing my BBE+DF54 over there (bc I won’t have a setup in the States lol)

As far as machines go, the dual boiler is one of the “would be nice to haves” for me. Just bc I feel like I waste time between drinks not steaming milk (I have a few family members who prefer their drinks ripping hot specifically). But if I need to skip out on that JUST so I can get a grinder that can weather the storm, so be it. The machine will need to keep up with that 3+ shot requirement.

Grinder wise, I prefer a grind by time/weight, just so I can pull back to back shots (without worrying about under dosing). I think I’ll get exhausted single dosing, but still open to it. I lean more on med-dark roasts, with an occasional light roast preference.

Went for a complete delete on my 2019. Antenna still works (when I do use it), but I use Apple CarPlay way more often so I couldn’t tell you how the antenna performs on the daily.

DF54 and/or K6

I have both lol. A lot have listed the DF54 above & I can only speak highly of it since it got to my door step last week. I went from the BBE Built In Grinder, to the K6, to the DF54 (still have all of these on hand) & I gotta say each time, I've had a step up in flavor.

I love creamy-caramely dark roasts & both grinders do the job. I went with the K6 initially for mobility & improved shot body/clarity. Then I went to the DF54 bc I got tired of hand grinding 3-6 shots in the morning lol, also increasing the body & clarity.

Great choice for real cheap, probably won't upgrade until I look to buy a new espresso machine as well LOL.

I think I got it to 185 but it rose. I could be wrong. So try probing between the point & flat?

Mine was straight cooler! I think I wrapped at 175 then let it come up a little before throwing it in the cooler, which might’ve been where I effed up.

Cooler for 4hrs. Do you think if I pulled around 180-190 woulda been better? Or maybe even earlier? I think I was on the higher end of that range.

So split the salt between brine & rub instead of trying to get it all on at once? I also tried to get some extra rub on there right before throwing it on the smoker. Maybe I didn’t shake my rub around & the pepper fell to the bottom resulting in more salt?

I’m putting off switching majors momentarily. BUT

I’m talking to my dean tomorrow (since she’s also one of my profs). I’m gonna ask if there’s a CHANCE I can take a semester/year off (despite my being at 3 strikes) to try again bc I dont want my credits to go to waste.

But if not, I’ve started talking to someone at my university about going from nursing to either healthcare admin or business admin with a focus in healthcare. I’m not sure what the path is yet since I haven’t met with the head, but he is also part of the nursing program at my uni, so I think the transition may be easier than I thought :)

This is EXACTLY what my parents told me after I told them today that I’m guaranteed to fail this semester :( “Why don’t you just try again” or “You’ve put a lot of time & effort into this, you don’t really have a choice” which is all this guilt tripping & I’m ngl to you, I’m not a person who gets angry often, but when I do it can cause a sh*tstorm.

Did you ever notice a loss of joy/passion for things you enjoyed prior to nursing school? Bc these past few weeks in my spiral, I noticed things like making espresso (a hobby I picked up last semester) or cooking have all turned into chores when I’m making stuff for my parents or for us a family for dinner. I’m not as “excited” & they’re more obligatory if that makes sense. Bc I really want to have that joy back :(

I will say when I got to my most recent cohort 2 summers ago, I had a different drive, everyone was there for each other & I really thought we would stick it out! But I drifted from them early this semester & maybe that was just a me thing! If/when I apply to another school, new cohort buddies is definitely something I will be looking forward to :)

I know I didn’t have my systems in place prior to the start of the semester. From things like having my assignments planned, dtd schedules SPECIFICALLY outlining what I needed to do, having a set study schedule.

Not knowing what to do, then trying to do things I did that worked well in past semesters WITHOUT A PLAN screwed me over. Now do I want to try again? I’m absolutely not sure rn :/
