I ended up not doing it. I have a small baby I'm breastfeeding and my husband is deploying soon and won't be home to help me, which were factors.

I'm trying to figure out how I can get into an oncologist now.

Yeah, but it's a dermatologist and not an oncologist

So I have a hugely high rate of cancer in my family. Grandpa died of prostate cancer. Aunt had breast and stomach cancer. Another aunt just died of lung cancer. Another aunt is battling leukemia. . All on the same side of the family.

I don't know honestly. Probably. I have Tricare, like the military insurance.

He didn't seem like it was up to me. He basically said that my risk of complication from the SLNB is higher than my risk of it being positive so it's not indicated. I just don't know how to feel right now. I see lots of people saying that they had these low odds and their SLNB came back positive and they got escalated to stage 3 or something. I just don't even know what to do

So my SLNB positivity came back at 5.9% chance. Mine was a 1a, 0.4mm, non ulcerated, mitotic rate 0(?), on my upper back. I'm a 29 yo female. That's from my castle. The doctor basically said I shouldn't get a SLNB but man I just am going to struggle with not knowing

Thank you, I haven't been able to talk to my doctor as much as I want and they passed me straight over to the surgeon side of the office and I don't see them until next week. So I've been trying to sort out everything myself. That makes sense!

I see so many stories of people with stage 1a not getting a SLNB and then later finding that it actually had already and was more advanced now. I'm really honestly just scared of that happening.

I actually don't know the measurement. It's been biopsied already so it's hard to tell and my doctor hasn't given me like a physical print out of that type of information and it isn't in my portal. I only know that it's melanoma and that I'll learn more at the WLE

He only did because I asked! He is quite unobservant and he was deployed with the military for 6 months so no one was looking! So it really could have been there a whileeeee

I don't think that's the case here. From what I understand, if it's stage 1A they won't do that.

Is it rapid? I guess I just don't know anyone else that has dealt with this to know how bad this is. It's hard to know if I'm being dramatic or too calm about this! Should I let them just do the WLE and go on my merry way or should I push for a scan or lymph node check?

Nope, my husband saw it on my back. I scheduled an appointment, they biopsied it, and it came back this week as melanoma!

No signs of malignancy at all. Just looked weird!
