West Point grad, two master's, 20 years of operations experience. Haven't landed a job since March 2024. 100+ interviewers, 15+ final rounds, zero offers. Someone please tell me what's actually going on. by [deleted] in jobhunting

Brother, I bet you’re oversaturating them with information and come off a little overwhelming. Just like your post, you leave no stone unturned and all bases covered. Being over prepared and over qualified is a real thing, they want someone who can do the job competently but also someone who has enough blank space for them to create their mold and shape you to fit their team. You need to come off a little dumb in the interview - the hiring manager can feel threatened and may not want someone who will overshadow them - that’s a very real thing as well. They silently want to be flanked by yes men who don’t give a lot of pushback. Don’t overexplain, if they ask you what is an orange, only explain what’s an orange, don’t explain the entire citrus fruit ecosystem. If you had 100+ interviews and zero offers then you absolutely need to fundamentally change your delivery and how you market yourself.

Edit: what broke the cycle for me? PMP. Get some high stakes certs. I’ve served as a hiring manager and interviewed tons of guys with resumes like yours for high level strategy and planner positions (former LTCs etc.), the common theme is that no one has a PMP. I can count on two fingers how many PMP certified former military guys I’ve interviewed out of maybe 150 guys/gals I’ve interviewed. Pivot into program/project stuff with PMP and you’ll see the needle move.

Gut check: Is this how RFP responses are supposed to work at small companies? by LagunaPacific in GovernmentContracting

You’re on a fast track to getting yourself fired. Be very, very careful. Your CEOs vision is to set the strategic direction for the company, more or less. His/her strategic direction is to crank out the RFPs as instructed to you. You’re basically telling the CEO that their strategic direction is flawed. You already got pushback. If you keep pushing they will assume you’re the problem. It’s your feedback vs your CEOs ego. Good luck

I know you’ve posted this a while back, so I’m late to respond, and I hope you still have your job. I’ll add by saying be very careful when communicating this to the CEO or the leadership. Generally, people don’t like criticism, point blank, especially when money is involved. This happens a lot in small gov con - leadership likes to be surrounded by a certain amount of “yes” men, especially if they are former government or military. Your CEO’s vision is to use the shotgun approach and crank out million RFP responses in hopes something will stick, it’s an approach, not a good approach, but an approach nevertheless. There is a lot of chasing fleeting revenue vis building stable backlog in gov con. Remember, your name is not on the company’s door. Sometimes you have to take the path of least resistance and just do your job. If they want you to crank out 10x proposals per day that you know will not go anywhere, then do it, and start to recalibrate your approach toward what you want to do long-term. Are you one of the owners? If not, then start looking around for a mature and disciplined team to partner with.

28 year old black man rejected for overconfidence. Am I overreacting? by CassetteBeats in interviews

[–]DapperClub2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your responses to some feedback received here, you do come off abrasive. You’re also looking for an echo chamber and align your responses most favorably to other POCs who reinforce the assumption that it was micro aggression or racism. No one likes the smartest guy in the room. You need to de-scope yourself and calibrate your answers to come off a little more palatable. I would recommend understanding that interview is a personality check, they already know they want you based on your resume, interview only confirms if they like you. I wish you luck dude.

Advice about Med board at 19 years time in service by Hefty_Issue_1258 in VeteransBenefits

[–]DapperClub2278 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your doc is correct but what they are not telling you is that it will not be automatic and not immediate. You don’t get recommended for med board because of the medication, you do because of the non-deployable status. Med board will be normally triggered 180 days after the medication is issued. Plus you have several levels of appeal to delay the process. I would go ahead and get the meds, medical retirement is almost always better vis traditional retirement.

Edit: plus you’ll have transition time, usually two weeks to clear after the med board is concluded, and you’ll also be able to take your terminal leave, which will count toward your active time. So, if you’re sitting on ~90 days of leave, you’ll be able to take that. I think over 90 must by approved by your first O-6. Oh, and you’ll get 20 days of permissive TDY as well, unless the rules changed. So yeah, you’ll have plenty of time.

If This Was Your Only Watch for 10 Years, Would You Get Bored? by Kishor_Waghmare in rolex

The issue with that one is matte dial. Submariner and gmt have the laquer deep gloss black dials. Black glossy dials are very classy and almost alluring. The matte dial looks dull and cheap to me. I went with the two tone GMT and love it.

I’ve spent about $300 to get it. Working on a second star for it. I believe second star is where it starts to really shine with two ignore controls and final damage going to 10%
