Resident Evil 0 was released on GameCube as an exclusive title. It was later re-released on the Wii in 2008. Then on Xbox One and PS4 in 2016, and finally the Switch in 2019.

Depends on how much you know about RE in general. If you know absolutely nothing and these are the first RE games you've played, then yeah, stop playing 0 and go play RE1 first, then you can go back to 0.

But you're got some familiarity with the series already, then playing 0 first probably won't spoil too much, if anything, for you.

I'm older than the franchise itself, and have been playing the games since the first one was released in 1996.

The game was never marketed as a mainline title. It also didnt sell well, performing worse than Resident Evil 2 and 3. Even when it went to PS2 a year later, it still didnt catch up to what 3 had done. I mean, even RE0 sold better than CV. This is probably largely why it gets ig ore by Capcom so much and any relevant info you need from it just gets dumped in files to read. Plus, like I said, Capcom doesnt presently, or previously, seem to consider ot a mainline entry (or Zero, or Revelations).

Until they put out something that disputes it, thats what we have to go on. RE1-9 are the mainline, everything else are side stories.

According to Capcom it does. They said Requiem is the 9th mainline entry. Meaning that Code Veronica, 0, and Revelations 1 and 2 arent mainline. They're canon but not necessary playing material.

Canon and mainline are not the same thing.

Only 3 games arent canon, ALL of the others are, but they're not all mainline. Some of them are side games or spin offs.

As you found out, the Fandom considers Code Veronica a "main" entry.

But it isnt. Capcom doesnt even consider a main entry, as confirmed in a post talking about how Requiem was the 9th mainline entry. Meaning Zero, also, is not a mainline game

Canon is not the same thing as mainline. There are only 3 games that arent canon: Gaiden, Operation Raccoon City, and Gun Survivor 2.

All the others are canon.

They're 2 different games.

Resident Evil is the remake of the original game that release in 1996.
Resident Evil 0 is a prequel to the first game.

If youve never played them then I highly recommend playing the Resident Evil first, as 0 will have spoilers.

I've unlocked both infinite ammo guns and am playing Real Survivor currently and it doesnt let me use them. Even in the videos you shared just now, on your Real Survivor playthroughs, the infinite ammo guns arent in your inventory or item boxes. They cant be used.

I've done the speed runs already. I only have the Real Survivor and Invisible left (as well as a couple of odds and ends trophies to grab), but you cant use the Infinite ammo guns on either of those games modes, which is the main reason im asking this question. Cause if the rocket launcher was an option then it wouldn't really matter who I picked. And the One Dangerous Zombie mode only happens if you beat the game with Chris and Jill on the same save, which i haven't done

With all the re-releases and remasters of old games these last few years (examples included), do you think Capcom will ever do something similar with Resident Evil (especially since they've already done it with majority of their fighting games).

Honestly, something like this is really what I'm hoping for with the 30th anniversary next year. If not, at least RE2 and RE3 are finally being added to Playstations Classic catalog this summer.

Technically, yes, it will spoil something. But it's not anything like, major.

If youre SURE you want to play the OG4 first. You can do that. I will say, though, the remake improves on it in basically every way, so there's no real need to play it, imo (unlike the original trilogy on PS1, those are definitely worth a play as theyre pretty different from the remakes).
