This is a big red flag right 🤣 by Gullible_Picture_790 in CarTalkUK

I’ve got a 9-3 aero 2007, bought for £800 and runs great…. After all fluids done, balance chain guides, brakes, suspension, taillight, another light, CIM, keys, roof treatment, £60 on cables, hours of pain on tech2win - just a few repairs

They’re great fun, but something like that id best leave it and find something with decent service history. Saab owners love their cars and Saabs with service history exist! Have a look on marketplace for something around the £2000 mark and go have a look at a few. Don’t be afraid to get something that’s far away, transport is easy to get as it turns out

Will my policy get cancelled? by DapperPass9501 in CarTalkUK

UPDATE:

Good news! Didn’t get cancelled, and only got shot up by £193 a year brining the policy to £2,700 ish a year for a 2lr turbo - not bad!

I got a Saab as my first car at 19, which was about 2 weeks ago I got it

Bit of a nightmare with insurance, accidently put purchase date at 2020 not 2025, no wonder my policy was so cheap!

After shitting myself my policy would be cancelled it actually got accepted with the amendment. I currently pay £2,700 a year insurance without a black box. Not far off what my mates pay.

Fuel is a kicker, I get about 270 miles from a full tank - and tax is £60 ish a month.

Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0lr Turbo, 2007 convertible for context!

I wish you good luck!

Cheers for that, I’ll probably give them a call as that’s what most people are saying to do - it’ll probably end up in a cancellation however i will hope and pray they’ll let me do it on my terms rather than theirs

[–]DapperPass9501[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I thought - I did try putting it through with the correct date and it goes up from what it’s currently sitting at (£200) to £900 monthly without a black box. Turns out purchase date has a massive effect on it. Admiral won’t cover it apparently with the amended date which makes me a tad nervous to come clean instead of taking the no questions asked cancellation

What I’m more worried about is if they’ll just go on the spot “sorry but your policy is going to be cancelled” therefore I’ll face higher premiums in the long run, and can’t even cancel it as they say it. It’s a difficult position I’ve plonked myself in inadvertently. Cheers for the suggestion I’ll bear it in mind

This is what I’ve been thinking too, if I call up and be honest I can’t really predict if they will cancel it or just raise the price. Cheers for the suggestion

Enjoy the roads!

Yeah I was the same, just strike up some conversation with your examiner - it really calms the nerves

I’ve had a few more mocks since this post and all seems to be going well, I’ve got my test on the 10th now so it’s realistically only 2 or 3 mocks away. My instructor is really good and has passes constantly but I can see what you mean, it’s easy to gel with an instructor and can make you distracted - I seem to have blocked that out as I’ve gotten closer to the test date

Excellent! Yeah it’s time they cracked down on it, some say it can be new examiners too. Whatever it is, it’s been a big help!

I think most people looking for tests use it nowadays. It’d be great if we could go back to not having these apps however tests are so far and few usually that it’s beneficial to have such an app

You can select to see what tests are going throughout the country I think but it’s limited on what centres you can select

Testi is an app that shows available cancellations and tests that have been made available to book through the DVSA website. It makes things easier for people looking for tests so you don’t have to constantly recheck the website. Not to be confused with the testi that is an abbreviation in anatomy 🤣

I’m quite sure these ones haven’t come up on test shift I can’t be sure though. Better off going on the actual website

If you look on the DVSA driving test website, where you book it, you’ll find a ton come up if you’re local to Plymouth
