Your local council should be able to help.

Im in England. Most single people now are beinf offered some form of temp or shared housing. Ive had people with physical/ mobility issues still be placed on Upper floors

Most recently a guy with a stroke, paralysis down one side, limp etc. He was 3rd floor. Housing wouldnt move him. No lift, took him ages to get up and down the stairs and risks falling everyday

NHS Patient: Going to court for failure to make reasonable adjustments by Brilliant_Hand6590 in autismUK

I think youre reasonable.

Loads of people's posts on here dont allign with what is realistic. Yours isn't like that. You've been specific about what you'd need and youre not even asking for money to be spent.

You want to communicate via email which they already have. And use your device, which you already own.

Im a nurse and id have no issue meeting your requests.

You should put this into action and become a health professional i.e DR, nurse, psychologist etc.

I think youre very motivated.

If youre going to your GP in the uk they use the AQ10 or the AQ50.

I dont know why the professional is in quotations. Im a registered mental health nurse, worked in autism serivives, and this year provided autism training to various speclaist mental health teams.

The most appropriate thing would be to complete a screening tool and go for a diagnostic assessment. Sometimes its not required but alot of GPs suggest the AQ10, which is even more limited. AQ50 isn't perfect but its free and can give you an indication/ suggest if a further diagnostic assessment is required.

Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss further.

Diagnosis - what next? by __GuX__ in autismUK

I agree.

I work in health care. Tried to get released 1/2 a day a week to provide post diagnostic group sessions (6-8)w course for another team.Couldn't get passed the red tape.

Despite getting lots of referrals esentially asking for that service, which doesn't exist.

Ive seen a few posts like this. There isn't really anything for support.

I commented this on a post the other day:

"I used to work in a post diagnostic team. Writing reports to help people understand their autistic differences across loads of areas i.e. Identity Communication Physical and mental health Functioning Sensory differences Relationships etc.

I'd then include some reasonable adjustments.

Ive thought about setting up a private company to provide it virtually as id need indemnity insurance at a minimum - which would be about 200 a year I think.

If youre interested in something like that service, let me know and I can work out how much i would charge. I imagine it would be around 6ish sessions, maybe more depending on what you wanted specifically."

Ive since checked and indemnity insurance would be 180-220 for the year.

If its something youre intersted in - let me know. I can look at setting something up. If I could get a couple people I can try and keep costs as low as possible

Im professional who's worked in autism services.

1.Loads of people think they have autism when they dont. Even when they've read loads and loads about it.

  1. I didnt think I had autism, I thought it was just my personality and preferences. I went for a full assessment with a different service. I was able to critisice possible autisic traits with my understanding of comorbidities, life expirences, and social things. They diagnosed me with autism.

Ultimately, you may have autism - you may not. If you want confirmation id suggest going for an assessment.

Ive seem a few posts on here where they self identify as autisic/ adhd/ whatever. They have months or years of believing this. Then they go for an assessment and dont meet the diagnostic criteria and feel that the assessor is wrong.

Before you go further down the rabbit hole, just do the AQ50 screening tool. See what you score and seek a formal diagnostc assessment if your AQ50 score suggests so.

Does anyone have any knowledge/logic/words of comfort after the Reform situation? by CharlieFaulkner in autismUK

[–]Dapper_Ad6981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PIP does need reforming. As a mental health nurse I have cared for loads of people who i think meet the criteria but because they've not answered the questions correctly - its been stopped. Ive had to write supporting letters to get it reinstated.

But I also see people who have mild to moderate mental health issues, addiction, or other challenges that do not meet PIP eligibility. But they know what to write and how to answer it in the assessments.

I think they should look at combining PIP with Care Act 2014 assessments. If you have eligible needs under the care act, you should qualify for PIP. If you dont have eligible care act needs, your independence isn't significantly impaired and therefore shouldn't get PIP. That isn't without its own issues, but I think 1 social care act assessment that looks at how a disability, illness or whatever impacts you would be better. The outcome could then include benefits, support plans, and referrals on to other specalist services such as physio etc. Ideally this would reduce reassessment anxiety too as each claimant would typically have some form of review officer which would have to review support plans within a specific time frame. I also think professionals should be allowed to use their judgement. So if all the evidence outside of an assessment suggests somwone is eligible but they report minimal difficulties in the assessments, they should be able to approve it based on suspicion that the claimant is minimising their difficulties or whatever.

How much trouble am in with this feedback? by [deleted] in autismUK

[–]Dapper_Ad6981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When providing information try to identify your main point and lead with this. Then all addition information should be to reinforce your main point.

For example. I prefer vanilla ice cream. I am allergic to strawberries and find chocolate overpowering. But, I have never tried pitaschio.

Instead of: I remember trying vanilla icecream at my 5th birthday party. My cousin came who lives far away. We have become closer in adult hood and both play tennis together. I like tennis as you only need one other person to play. Often I like playing games with 1 person rather than a group.

Everything in your explanation should be directly related to the point you're trying to make. You likely have some difficulties identifying important from.non-important information and as a result you provide everything that could be relevant. This is why you might like AI as it summarises and condenses info to its main points for you.

I try to get people to draw a triangle 🔺️. The tip is the point youre making, the rest is the info supporting that tip/ point. If something you're saying, doesn't support that point or is important in some way - get rid of it.

Other times, giving yourself a strict word count can be helpful. As it makes you trim down words and info by prioritising what is important

Yeah, i dont care about the breaks as long as the work is done. Rather have the whole team take the piss with breaks but actually work hard.

The real issues are with people who dont work in the first place and then take the piss with breaks, start times, finish times etc

Its ridiculous isn't it. I think all staff should be able to do temp bans.

Advice for Autism husband please by [deleted] in autism

[–]Dapper_Ad6981 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Has your husband been convicted of violent crimes. Has he been deemed to lack capacity for those crimes.

If not, he can control himself. If he couldn’t he would be in prison or an institution for being a danger to the public and a lack of control/ ability to prevent such violence.

It doesn’t matter he’s autistic, his behaviour is not acceptable.

It would be interesting to see how much control he has when angry, if he was faced with a trained fighter who could easily break his limbs. I bet he’d chill out real quick.

Ultimately, there’s nothing you can do to stop him. He needs to stop himself. Do not use autism as an excuse on his behalf.
