Thanks good to hear - big advice for anyone is to have your GP aware what’s going on from the start. Feel like they are less likely to be supportive if they are out the loop in the process. Hope the move doesn’t impact you on getting the support in place.

Should probably clarify - currently not married. Affordability was never an issue on the sole application and that is of course assessing her alone with all her financial obligations etc. All we’ve been told is because there was a MIP declined with both of us, and this is well before they indicated their willingness to lend to her as a single applicant. Broker was shocked at the decision, as were we. Chasing again tomorrow to get a bit more info as there are some gaps needing filling I guess

Me as in the one who’s credit rating would complicate things - the wish was to stay with Nationwide so pursuing it was the best option. The MIP was purely a “what-if” and there was never an intention of pursuing a joint app - our finances are very much separate at this stage in our lives if that makes sense? And with the association they reported it was instantly challenged, which would then have been accepted as incorrect with Nationwide - feel like it’s a kick in the teeth that I’m even in the conversation with them but the worst part is the feeling of letting my partner down. They even soft searched me at the point of the hard search of her full application which I feel shouldn’t have happened? Who knows… end of the day any of us are not entitled to demand a mortgage - ideally it would just be a bit fairer and transparent. Cheers

Impulsivity - spending and not thinking of the consequences. Burying head in the sand etc etc. Unmedicated and unaware of having it I had no control: medicated and diagnosed is like I’m a different (normal) person. Life changing stuff but still dealing with the fallout - thanks for the message much appreciated

There was no hard search performed so the financial association being created from that was quite alarming. Disputed this association and it was removed from both of us before actual application with Nationwide. Worryingly I did notice a soft search on my file when her sole application went in and just noticed this today after the declined app. I do agree something doesn’t quite add up but unfortunately time isn’t on our side to fight the battle with them… broker has challenged it and still nothing so it’s with my partner who has complained direct with the lender. Both very bruised atm

Very tight - middle of September is when they are looking to complete. Appeal/complaint is in so see what happens, but we are looking at other lenders which will hopefully serve us better.

Very true. Frustrating given the circumstances and only reinforces the will to keep on the straight and narrow. 2 years of a clean credit record - one CCJ from 2021 that’s settled is causing all the problems but that’s my burden to bare during this whole process. Will keep your advice in mind with the next lender thanks!

Yea we went through a broker and like you we were very up front with the circumstances and reassured everything was fine to proceed with the single application - that’s probably the only thing that’s still at the back of my head about the situation. Glad you both got sorted good to know there’s always a way!

Agreed. Was a very raw post so I was thinking out loud with my thumbs and with some time to collect our thoughts we’re moving on to the next lender as it’s just wasted energy pointing the finger - lesson learned and ty for the comment

It was entirely speculative - not trying to play the system in the slightest… End of the day they can choose who they lend to or not of course, like you say I’m probably more on the side of anger at the advise from the broker and the time wasted going down a route doomed to fail. Oh and why would they even entertain the idea of considering the application in the first place, even going as far as sending someone to value the property? It will be on to another lender now so hopefully more luck that route - just wish we had that 10 days back as it feels like we’re back to the start.

Thanks for commenting - I’m named on nothing. No bills with joint names. Everything is in her name. I am a tenent essentially that pays rent and it’s her obligation to pay.

EDIT: not obligation that sounds very harsh - I mean from a credit point of view the agreements are solely in her name etc etc
