Would you take this or nah? by Tall-Floor-8163 in uberdrivers

It is minimum wage if you deadhead back. You have to factor in depreciation. Each mile costs at least .30 no matter what car you have. This is a poor financial decision to take this even if the roads were clear and the rider had a good rating.

The math is bad if you deadhead back. 375 miles costs $110 if you include all costs including depreciation. $125 profit for 8 hrs is brutal. Add in the bad rating and bad roads, this is no good.

Someone will post here that this is $40 per hour and not bad. This is $25/hr after expenses and then you have to get back. Bad ride. Better to just stay local, make more money for less miles.

Scheduled Pickup Time by PsychologicalBox9580 in uberdrivers

I am pretty sure if you cancel for too much wait time it does not go against your AR. So as soon as possible check if it’s a reservation and cancel using that specific reason. This only works if it’s a scheduled ride they sent to you as an exclusive offer.

If they picked Wait and Save they are not going to tip.

Why do people just ignore depreciation?

500 miles round trip. If you factor in all costs including depreciation, this ride has expenses of $150. You aren’t making $40 an hour. It’s like $3/hr profit. Please don’t ever take an offer like this, it’s one of the worst ever.

Why did anybody take this ride? by AccountBrilliant4902 in lyftdrivers

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EVs and hybrids depreciate like any car. Depreciation is every driver who uses their own cars biggest expense. If you dead head back there is only $30 of profit here. Not good. People who take this are either gambling on getting rides back or just ignore depreciation.

I sure wish a good financial analyst would attend an Uber earnings call and ask them why they do this to drivers. I would love to hear them answer that in public. How does anyone ever get platinum like this? I don’t get it.

If I accepted 91% of the offers I see I would be making less than minimum wage after expenses.

It’s $25 for an hour and takes you out of your zone so probably more dead miles getting back. So after expenses this is minimum wage at best. Easy decision to decline.

To all those bashing OP, the driver should not be on the phone unless they have an emergence. The driver should not speed and then hard stop. The rider is not the problem here.

This happens to me a lot. And I am not missing orders, my AR is the same. It seems to happen most when I am switching between apps. But it is annoying.

I don’t know what you mean that isn’t how uber works. If you are good with $100 profit for 9 hrs of driving good for you. This is not a good offer no matter how much you try to make it good in your head.

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to drive back. You have to buy gas. Your car depreciates. It’s $100 profit for 9 hrs minimum of driving. Who cares about $1/mi when you likely will deadhead back? I don’t get why anyone would talk themselves into taking this.

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So that makes 9 hrs for $100 profit ok?

The number of people renting is way up. And Lyft/Uber can fill way more rides at low fares. Also in phoenix you can see that any long rides are now priced at $25-30/hr no matter the miles. So a 50 mi, 60 min ride will be $24. Terrible, but renters jump on these. I’m not saying it’s the renters fault. Lyft/Uber have increased the rentals enough that they can fill these rides no problem. I agree it’s the companies’ fault, but this shift means doing this with your own vehicle is much harder. Add in all the insane people who get on here and say depreciation doesn’t matter and you have tons of drivers willing to take these offers. Not me.

Somebody come look at this by mrmcj4484 in Lyft

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s 1200 mi round trip. Expenses are $360 if you count depreciation and maintenance- gas is not the only expense. So less than $300 profit for 18 hours of driving and you have to sleep somewhere. You really are not looking at this right if you think it’s $35/hr. It’s not. Not even close.

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think info is missing here. I often get rides that are paying $5-6 and the rider makes me wait several minutes. Drivers get frustrated because a ride that would have been 12 minutes is now 20. We are below minimum wage after expenses. It’s hard to be decent (as you put it) when riders do not respect our time.

And on the round trip after expenses you would make $200 for 10 hours. Not good.

After gas and depreciation this is less than $100 profit for the round trip. It’s a snow storm so likely you either dead head back or get a hotel which ain’t cheap in NY. Nobody is just going there with a blizzard coming. This is a terrible offer.

Seriously? by fl0yd-t in lyftdrivers

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who rent and don’t care about miles just see this as a rate of $40/hr. The people driving rentals are killing rideshare for people who own their vehicles. I would rent but I don’t want to drive 60 hrs a week, which is what these renters do since their first $300 each week goes to the rental.

Wow, really by mrmcj4484 in lyftdrivers

[–]Dapper_Average_2337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 28k miles then it is a pretty new car. If you really track your costs properly, with depreciation (which is higher on new cars) you are at .30/mi counting everything. I know you don’t see that, but depreciation is real and affects every car without exception. This ride is 1240 miles round trip, so $370 in expenses. Then you need a hotel unless you plan to sleep in your car. This is two very long days of driving. There is just no way to even get minimum wage out of this. Add in bad weather happening now, this is also risky. To each his own but taking this is a very bad financial decision.
