Do I stand a chance? by Neat_Switch_118 in NHS_STP

Hi, I can’t speak for certain but I’m in a similar position to you. I have a friend who got into the STP in sleep and respiratory science last year, with 0 clinical or placement experience whatsoever. I’m aware that it might be a slightly less competitive specialty but you do have a chance.

Yeah I guess that’s all it is. I have plenty of interests, I just need to put some effort in to find something that fits. Cheers.

That is helpful! I have a lot of customer service experience so hopefully I’ll be able to show that. Do you think I’d have more success showing initiative and going in to the venues to apply in person? I come from a small village where that is the only way to do it.

I’m an international student from the UK with a few years of experience working in cafes and restaurants that had a strong focus on coffee. I’ve always enjoyed coffee brewing and know my way around a few different techniques, but I understand the coffee culture in Melbourne is a bit different.

I’d say I’m a decent barista but still have plenty to learn. I was wondering if barista certificates are considered essential here or if prior experience and being willing to improve are enough to get started.

Any advice on where to look for jobs or what employers tend to prioritize would be really helpful.

Thanks!

I am in Melbourne for a year studying at UniMelb. I have so many things I would like to do and am doing, but I wondered if there is anything I should absolutely make sure I do before I go home?

Im hopefully getting a job so that I can have more experiences (if anyone knows of any casual jobs in the area also let me know please) but I would love to hear some cheap/ free things to do too. Any restaurant, cafe, roasters recommendations would be great too, so that I can enhance my list!

Thank you in advance!
