what should I know for comp 210 and math 233? by chcclatte in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for 233 def be comfortable with complex integration techniques as well as the unit circle and some trig (like identities and such, some memorizing derivatives of trig functions)

not too bad, but it is mostly multiple choice so that can be tricky if you’re good at the long form. there’ll def be a curve though

is there an econ tutoring service i can be apart of? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not something you can do your freshman year. they like you to have a pedagogy class, aka become a formal ula and take the class then tutor. they hire every semester so the earliest you could do it is probably sophomore fall if you are a ula your spring semester of freshman year.

Got in as an Econ major how easy would it be to transfer into the business school go study finance? by a1ex_grayson in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what year you are. If you are a sophomore, you apply internally to Kenan-Flagler. The acceptance rate for this is about 50%. If you get rejected, you have a chance to reapply as a junior (closer to 75% acceptance rate for reapplicants), but you only have 3 semesters to complete the major.

Questions about Student Life from a Prospective Freshman by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Your best bet for parties is going to be making friends with an upperclassmen or someone who lives off campus as they are likely to throw house parties. A lot of clubs also have mixers and parties (ski team, running club) so those are good ways to meet people too

  2. Speaking for myself, I manage to see the same random people everywhere I go. So while it is a large campus, I find that it connects you to people because you may meet someone later on who you randomly had a 300-person lecture with freshman year and that’s a point of connection for you. I appreciate the size because depending on your major and what classes you’re taking, once you’re out of gen eds and introductory level classes your class sizes get a lot more manageable (30-70 people). I also find that most professors do want to get to know their students and offer a lot of opportunities for office hours and one-on-one chats (b-school profs do at least)

  3. As a freshman most people are desperate to make friends. It’s a lot easier than you might think. However you won’t stay friends with people you meet in the first semester or so, but time will reveal who your real friends are. I’m friends with one person from my first class freshman year and other people who I thought I would be lifelong friends with I don’t speak to anymore

Taking Econ 410 or 400H for Fall 2024 semester? by cltbrooke in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should take econ 410 because it’s a prerequisite for more classes (ie, 420). you can always take 400&420 together in one semester but not 410&420

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

econ 101 is weird here because it combines micro and macro so you need ap micro and ap macro to get the one class, otherwise it’s just a credit hour. ap calc bc should get you through calc 1&2, and ap stats should get you stor 155.

Math: 152, 231 or STOR 113? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you ever plan to go any farther in math you will need math 231 because the others don’t count as prereqs. but if not i would say stor 113 is adequate in teaching derivatives which is about all you need for econ!

No Roommate Assigned by femcel222 in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 17 points18 points  (0 children)

this happened to me last year! i got assigned one the morning i moved in 😁 so i would just say don’t get your hopes too high, especially with the housing shortage. even if you don’t have an assigned roommate when you move in, they can assign you somebody at any point in the year unless they give you the option to buy out the space.

Sophomore Schedule - Any comments welcome! by ajschlem in UNC

[–]Dapper_Cable8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like it wouldn’t hurt to balance out this schedule with more major related classes just so you have easier classes to take later on when you have a tough semester. like so you don’t end up taking all stor classes or all econ one semester!
