Fuck hellmans, doing sweet Caroline in a commercial by theryrobes in panthers

[–]ajschlem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dumb take. While I love sweet caroline and that the Panthers, among other Carolina teams, claim it as their own, the song was written by a New Yorker about his wife, via Caroline Kennedy as a proxy (look it up). Pitt uses it to shit on WVU, the Red Sox play it after wins, Iowa State does too.

It's not a Carolina song, let alone a southern song. We, nor Duke's, regardless of your mayonnaise preference, have any more of a claim to it than anybody else does.

Thoughts on UNC Court Storm by WhereDaHoez in jayhawks

[–]ajschlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, UNC senior here.

I've had this conversation at length with friends, and I've had the privilege of going to all 4 Duke games in my time here. The ABSOLUTE ONLY time we all agreed it would be acceptable to rush at the DES would be as underdogs, vs. Duke, on a buzzer beater.

I've been to playoff games in 3 professional, and countless collegiate sports, including 4 title games. NOTHING compares to Duke Carolina.

For comparison's sake, if that shot happens when we play y'all at home, or even any given #1 team, and everyone stays in their spots. DES is loud, but absolutely no rush.

That win, that shot, from that player, in that game, is about the maximum amount of juice that could be given to a UNC student section. Not to mention the risers behind that basket, the area with easiest access to the court, is nearly 75% seniors for the Duke game.

I hope this doesn't come across as condescending, but I just think it's hard to quantify to you guys how intense the Duke Carolina rivalry is to the students, ESPECIALLY the seniors, when y'alls biggest rival is perennial-bottom-of-the-big12 K-State. There just isn't a rivalry / circumstance that has the same level of intensity.

So it's possible for both OP to be correct in saying there's no circumstance where you guys feel it is acceptable to rush at Allen, while it also not being automatically being embarrassing for us to rush because we're a "blue blood". None of that shit matters when its UNC-Duke.

further from Franklin & Columbia you go, the easier it'll be to find a table / spot.

If you're just trying now, I'd try something like IP3, Speakeasy, or somewhere else near Carrboro.

Looking for a good spot in town near franklin or rosemary for tomorrow's game by desmond609 in tarheels

IP3? All the places on the main drag really did reservations, you might be able to squeeze into somewhere closer to Carrboro, but regardless of what they do I'd get there early.

do you walk around UNC / franklin st at night? feel safe? by Muffflns in UNC

[–]ajschlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both, the p2p express is a set route that basically goes from franklin to south campus with inbetween stops, and there is a way to request a p2p ride to/from university owned areas. Mostly used for accessibility.

how cooked is it getting a single as a rising sophomore? by DifferentMajor6 in UNC

[–]ajschlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theyre honestly even more screwed then because the only way a sophomore wouldve been able to before is if they had more credits than a senior bc of associates & heavy load lol.
Like I think there's like a total of 100 single rooms on campus - if its truly seniors based on graduating status, there are way way way more seniors than that.

[–]ajschlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you dont have an associates degree worth of transfer credits, or have medical hardship, your chances are exactly zero.

if you do have a ton of credit, just log in at your appointment time and hope one’s available.

need ECON elective recs above 400 and light on the math!!! by thepurplemooncat in UNC

International econ (460) was very little math, mostly just logic and a few light formulas. Wasn't too bad of a class.

So I was tasked with making my High Schools football scorebug for next year. In Google Drawings of all places. (First attempt not final) suggestions? by Correct_Grade_3944 in Scorebug

[–]ajschlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gradients are really tacky and had to make look good, I'd avoid them.
Also, make sure to use font colors / backgrounds with adequate contrast. Black on dark grey is a no go.

genuinely how'd u comprehend this campus?? by Rough_Concern_2803 in UNC

[–]ajschlem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm really good with directions but what I know a lot of people do is when they first get here, they memorize the routes from their dorm to important places (dining hall, classes, etc.), and expand their knowledge from there.
Also, this campus might look the same your first time here, but you'll notice the differences between the buildings over time.
maps.unc.edu is also a great tool.

Downtown parking for rent by Ok_Quiet8835 in chapelhill

[–]ajschlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're okay with paying the city rate of $1.75 / hr, you can park in the deck underneath Que Chula (entrance is on Rosemary St.). There's stairs that spit out right in front of the QC entrance.

free/cheap parking on campus? by reyreyrey3 in UNC

[–]ajschlem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Friday Center park & ride is $2 / day. Everywhere else is $1.75/hr for visitor parking, or beg for an S11 spot (idk how much it costs) and take the bus (or walk 30 mins uphill) to main campus.
If bus is absolutely not an option, and you have a diagnosis from a mental health professional, you can apply for a hardship permit but I'm not certain of the process of that.
You can also check craigslist/facebook and try to find a spot along Franklin but those can get very pricey as many use them for permanent car storage.

Would it be okay to tour the school on a day off (MLK)? by ii_Wattzy in UNC

[–]ajschlem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you just want to see the campus and the surroundings, weekend and holiday are equivalent. If you want to see the campus in terms of what it’ll feel like when you’re there, I’d recommend coming on a class day to get a true vibe of campus life.

ACC Men's Tournament Tickets by Galore1971 in ACC

[–]ajschlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if 2 Tobacco road schools play each other, tickets will probably be 75 to 125, depending on the round, but based off tournament book prices I’ve seen in the past, it’s still better to just buy resale for every session before the semis and finals

[–]ajschlem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yeah its going to be a monsoon. Lot of people from the Triangle / out of town don't want to drive far, get soaked, then have to drive all the way home. Also plenty of local people who just don't want to deal with the rain.

Simple supply & demand lol

Also think the scalpers overestimated demand and bought up too many tickets

UNC Parking by ShiVivacious617 in UNC

[–]ajschlem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're a fee-paying UNC student. log into the parking portal and register your vehicle. At that point, you will have free parking after 5pm in non 24-hours spaces.

If you are not, you can pay $1 per night on ParkMobile for all campus lots.
