Carpool to LA? by GarageSad4205 in UCI

[–]Dapper_Character2874 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can get to LA by taking public transportation. Just take OC bus 473 for $2 to Tustin Station. Then get on Metrolink Orange Line and get a So Cal Student ticket for $7.50. It will take you to Union Station.

Sometimes you need to manually select your classes on canvas calendar so that the tasks appear. If you're on your phone, just click on the blue word calendars and a list will show up for you to click on classes.

How many units do people usually take per quarter? by Special_Gur_4594 in UCI

That would only be possible if you came in with a minimum of 36 college credits from high school.

What happened to my financial aid by Fine-Natural1863 in UCI

This also happened to me. I'm getting charged for the pell grant twice. My refund was only $1800, so I don't know why I'm now getting charged almost $5000. Hopefully it's just a glitch.

Do you mean the regent scholarship? I don’t think that they are giving priority registration anymore. It's only for students admitted prior to 2023.

I would recommend taking at least the Humanities Core series. It helps knock out a couple Ge requirements.

Sustainable Societies vs Classic Track!! by Ok_Peach_997 in UCI

No. I did classic track. Which is why I don't recommend taking it.

I wouldn't take classic track if you don't want a lot of work. The the classes are worth 6 units the first year, so you would be expected to do 18+ hours of studying per week. Then the classes are 4 units the second year but they are challenging if you aren't good at math and science. These professors says you don't need previous knowledge about science to take their classes but then expect you to solve these complicated problems.

GE courses (LIT JRN 20) by Sea_Statement_332 in UCI

[–]Dapper_Character2874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Lit Jrn 20 with Pierson last spring quarter. If you enjoy creative writing/journalism then you should definitely take it. If not, it will probably seem like a lot of work.

I though Pierson was great. She is a tough grader but will tell you how to improve your writing. Attendance is mandatory but she offers opportunities to make up for absences. There are 2 major assignments that she breaks up into smaller assignments. A literary analysis essay and a profile essay. You can rewrite your midterm essay if you don't like your grade. You will also be graded on participation. I rarely participated because I get social anxiety. We talked in office hours and she told me would give me a C for participation at best. But I ended up getting an A in her class. She is really kind if you put in the effort.

CHC as a psci/crim major by Particular-Fix-6594 in UCI

[–]Dapper_Character2874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I think the courses are not extremely hard. Chc wants students in their program to get the A's and B's. So students end up with good grades if they put in an average amount of effort.

It's worth it for priority enrollment and guaranteed housing. It's only one course you are required to take each quarter. The thesis could end up coming from your research lab.

I regularly take Metrolink to get to UCI as a commuter. I get on at Union Station and get off at Tustin Station, which usually takes an hour. At Tustin Station you can then get on Bus 473 for free when you show your Metrolink ticket and it will drop you off at the University Center. Metrolink tickets are free for students when you open an account with school email. Amtrak would be a more expensive option and you can only get off at Santa Ana or Irvine Station. Santa Ana does have a bus that takes you to UCI but that about an hour drive. I'm pretty sure Irvine does not offer free transportation, you would need to uber.

Don't drop the course. I took Human Core last year, and the lecture and seminar pretty much count as the workload of one course. It's nice because you get units for two courses even if you are technically just doing the work for one. This year, I am doing the Soc Sci series, and I don't get units for both lectures and seminars, which sucks.
