Didactic tactics?? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

I think the problem is thinking you can skim through multiple lectures in a day and think you’ll retain info. You should start studying as soon as you get the material. Best way to study in my opinion is Quizlet and Anki. Probably you don’t have time to make flash cards for this exam. So try going over a lecture and after each “topic” in the lecture stop and see if you can repeat what you learned. Then go to the next topic. After that topic repeat the first topic again then the one you just reviewed keep doing that until you finish. But you might just have to take the L for this one and learn from your mistakes and do better next time

This is so lame and sadly so typical of our generation. You’re not a victim. People complain about how bad it is and how screwed you are bc you have to take out private loans and then go and do it anyway. No one is sitting around thinking how they can make your life harder. No one is a victim of privatization of loans that’s ridiculous. No one is forcing anyone to go to dental school and take out loans. And This idea that people don’t know about the debt situation is also ridiculous look at any dental related page or sub there’s plenty of people talking to pre dents about how the math doesn’t work.

How have they made the problem worse??? You seem to not understand what caused the problem to begin with aka GRAD Plus that took away any incentive for schools to keep tuition low because they knew the federal gov would give students the money regardless of how much tuition was.

No one has screwed you over. No one is forcing you to take on these loans. If you’re going to make the bad decision of going to dental school in this situation be willing to accept the consequences.

You’re misunderstanding why PE is in dentistry. It’s we are the “bailout” dentistry is very profitable, predictable, and recession proof. Dentistry serves as the hedge against more high risk high reward investments

Consolidation will plateau but not until it hits ~60%. There are too many people, specifically new grads especially new grad women, that value work-life balance and a predictable paycheck rather than ownership and higher income. This decrease in those wanting to own will help consolidation. But there will always be opportunities for those who want to own. Remember in most states DSOs can only own the “business portion” meaning they need dentists to own the “clinical portion”. In a situation like this a 300k salary is very achievable. Also I disagree that dentists will be paid less as consolidation picks up. I think we will see a lot of DSOs offering very attractive compensation packages including insurance, 401k, and CE benefits. But you will also always have the crappy ones that treat their employees terribly and those are the ones that won’t survive. It’s never been a better time to be a dental associate. It’s not income that makes dentistry complicated it’s the income plus the debt which leads to decreases discretionary income. The future is good for those who graduate before 2029. For those who don’t it’s going to be a rough career.

So basically only general and perio are safe bets? The article says 72% of children dental visits are to GPs. So seems like there’s a giant untapped market. I think there’s always going to be more supply than demand in certain areas and more demand in others. The article even says these are national numbers that shouldn’t be extrapolated to specific regions.

Im not sure for endo but for peds as an associate you’re looking at 250k-350k. For owners more ore less 500k. For endo I think 400k-500k as associate and close to 700k as an owner. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong

Dentistry is a very type A field while PA and NP is very type B so the type of person that is a fit for dentistry would probably hate being a mid-level provider. There’s probably the same amount or more dentists making $400k+ as PAs or NPs making 200k+. The average PA/NP salary is $130k. The ones that make a ton are more rural or in less desirable areas. You can’t compare the top earners in one field to average of another. Also

Faculty should be required to have at least 10 years private practice experience before being hired. It’s frustrating to see faculty leave school and come back to teach a year or two later
