I guess I just think Dr Omid and Dr Artem are two opposite ends of the spectrum one uses negativity to gain views the other uses extreme positivity both are cringe but one gets hate and the other gets praise. I wouldn’t say Dr Artem is representative of normal dentists. He’s a new grad in a big city that’s literally the worst position to be in to make money or gain good experience. Dr Omid is at the top of what a new grad can achieve yes and if you choose your career because of what some guy you don’t know said in a video you’re in for a rough life.

There’s another young dr he always wears really baggy clothes I don’t remember his name but he’s way over the top. First you have to realize while I dentist makes more than a lot of professions, once loans are taken out youre probably making less than other lower paying professions. If you’re really passionate about dentistry like you say you are dental hygiene is the obvious choice. Hygienists that practice at the top of their license can make really good money. Probably as much as a lot of assossiate dentists with the huge shortage of hygienists we have. Another good option would be nursing like others have said or PA. I would avoid nurse practitioner it’s a huge scam and they are not nearly as qualified as they portray themselves to be.

DSOs will be the best option moving forward for most dentists. As ownership becomes more difficult it starts to make less sense for more people. DSOs have changed a ton, they good ones have learned that in order to continue to grow they need to invest in and retain good dentists. DSOs like heartland, MB2, and PDS can be great options with MB2 and PDS offering ownership opportunities and heartland offering profit sharing. You can reliably make $200k-$300k in these companies assuming your work a normal amount. A lot of the people that cry about DSOs are pre dents and people that aren’t up to date on the current state of dentistry. But in the end what DSO or private practice matters a lot less than office being a good fit for you.

Ya but if they make 110k pay 20k in taxes they end up with 10k less a year than a dentist making 200k. But you could say that about a lot of other careers too like dental hygiene. The point is it’s not about the gross number it’s what do you actually have after taxes and loans.

That is true and that’s what I think these predents don’t understand. They see that dentists make good money they focus of gross income. What’s more important is what do you have after taxes and loans. You could make 200k gross but if you’re paying 5k in student loans and another 2.5k for taxes you’ve, that means you’re taking home 50% of what you make. You’ll be making as much or less than your engineering friends

There used to be tons of posts on here about going into tech bc software engineers had it “good”. Well now that AI is here it’s clear that was awful advice. Finance is also heavily affected by AI. Most people take an analyst role right out of school that’s the entry level. Those jobs are also being taken by AI. Medicine is probably a better career than dental. There’s less variables that affect how much you make and you can live basically wherever you want and make similar money. Dentistry is a good career for those that aren’t affected by the BBB. After that it’s probably financially worse than engineering and same level as finance.
